He's right (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl/news/20121217/week-15/?sct=hp_wr_a2&eref=sihp) too.

14. Pittsburgh (7-7). Stunned at all the Steeler fans who want to see Mike Tomlin fired. I read those silly message boards on Steelers fan sites. Part scary, part alarmist, part unwillingness to realize every team is 7-7 now and again.

Our behavior online is so embarrassing that a columnist for Sports Illustrated is calling us out in front of the world.

He is only calling out the nitwits who want to lay this all on Tomlin and have him fired not all Steelers fans. The truth is core of that group are the ones who didn't want him hired in the first place. They just have a reason now to come out of the shadows and express what they have always wanted.

Fact is, the NFL acknowledges that Tomlin is probably definitely in the Top 10 of coaches in the NFL. He isn't going anywhere because the Rooneys also know it and could care less what some fans think. Tomlin will have at least a 10 year run as head coach and maybe even more.

Is it possible that some of it is being misread? Questioning the leadership climate in the locker room is far different from asking for Tomlin's head on a platter.

Many of us are not calling for Tomlin to be gone. That wasn't represented by Peter King.

there are plenty of sensible, level-headed Steelers fans who don't want Mike Tomlin fired and fully realize that with all of the injuries we've had this season that it's totally understandable that we're 7-7.

it's just that those posts don't get noticed like the sensational ones do...

Yep. Kind of silly, isn't it? This is why people think of Steeler fans as "spoiled"?

A few comments are not the voice of Steeler Nation. This guy is taking something and trying to run with it and I find it to be cheap sensationalism. Does he really expect all Steler fans to hold hands and have group hugs over the losses ? Yeah, we complain and vent but, we back the team and coaches each week. This is our fun, these sports, the commercialism of it and all that makes it work is because of us fans. He wouldn't have a job, the teams wouldn't be without us fans so he should just love that we as fans have our ups and downs about a kids game played by adults.

Steeler fans who take the time to post about their team online all week aren't level headed or sensible at all times? I'm shocked...shocked I tell you.

Who cares what Peter King thinks? Discussion boards are where opinionated fans who can't get enough of football go. I think it says a lot that a sportwriter goes to a Steeler discussion forum in the first place.

I've noticed most sports writers and tv "analysts" don't do their homework and know less about the NFL than your average poster here. King should stick around. He might learn something. Maybe that is why he is here in the first place.

Don't know what you mean.

There's a series on HBO called 'Boardwalk Empire'. Greatest series ever. It takes place in the Prohibition Era in Atlantic City where people go for their booze. The guy that runs the town (Steve Buscemi) is named Enoch "Nucky" Thompson. He's half politician and half gangster. Since it takes place in the 20s/30s, the cars he rides around in look similar to yours.

I can see where he's coming from. If I weren't a fan and looked at these things I'd think the same.

Wow, you beat me to it.....
Over the last 3 years, how many complete Steeler games do you think Peter King had time to watch?

So.....what screen name is Peter King going under around here then?

He's half right. Steelers fans are prone to the odd over reaction. But that's just part of having football in the soul, Chadman suspects. No doubt every team's messege board has it's share of nutjobs, wackos & the Flippy's.

Only 'scary' part is when messege board fans turn into messege board hero's & can't see that everyone has a point of view.

But from what Chadman can tell, that's just being 'American', isn't it? :D

I think that's the human condition. Opinions are like buttholes. Everyone's got one. No one ever wants to look at the other guy's.

Apparently Peter King's wife is a Pittsburgh native so she's probably the one who was reading the Steelers messageboards then informing him about what was going on in Steeler Nation.

The scary and alarmist part is that many message board fans still believe that the Steelers will make the playoffs...

Seriously though, I haven't seen many posts regarding the firing of Tomlin..but obviously he has to take some responsibility with the Steeler' performance this year...

But fans ready to give up on him??? I don't get that....

I was supposed to be a Tomlin basher last season if Arians was still with the team but, I held off. This season if Arians was still with the team, I was going to start a " Fire Tomlin " now thread. As it turned out, Rooney had enough of Arians so, no need for my scary alarmist type attitude.
As for Tomlin and being the head coach, the stink always rises to the top. When a team isn't doing well it's on the coaches. Not the interceptions, or the fumbles that is on the players to a point but, when it starts to become your teams identity or you just expect fumbles or losing in overtime, that is the coaches fault.

Peter King never impressed me as a sports writer he should direct his attentions to sumo wrestling. He seems to have more in common with those guys.

I am sure glad that we don't see this happen in our modern, enlightened society.
