Report: Steelers to work out QB Kafkahttp://l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/DSFvKKpb6pegY7SDomnnIg--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Zmk9Zml0O2g9Mjc-/http://l.yimg.com/os/388/2011/11/08/nfpost-logo_023517.gif (http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/)By Terry McCormick | National Football Post 57 minutes ago

Former Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Mike Kafka (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/24097) will work out for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday, according to a report on ESPN's halftime show from Monday night.
Kafka was a bit of a surprise cut this summer by the Eagles, who released him in favor of rookie Nick Foles (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/25798) as Michael Vick (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5448)'s backup.
The Steelers are in need of a quarterback as they now turn to third-stringer and long-time backup Charlie Batch (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4319) to start this week against Cleveland. Ben Roethlisberger (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6770) suffered a fractured rib and separated shoulder against Kansas City.
Then, Byron Leftwich (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6343) broke two ribs in Sunday night's loss to the Baltimore Ravens, leaving Batch as the Steelers only healthy QB.

Should just bring in Johnson who they had in Training Camp... he'd be as much use as Kafka at this point in the season, and allows the Steelers to get another look at a guy they thought was good enough for TC earlier in the year.

Didn't Kafka break his hand or something and that was part of the reason the eagle cut him?

Certainly not the way we expected the Steelers to wrap up the season. How lucky were we to have the best 2nd and 3rd string QBs in the NFL?... the Steelers would really be screwed without them.

Kafka could start for Cleveland. Smart guy from Northwestern. Young.

Trying to find some positives here.

Nah, he's nothing but a cockroach, more Tony Montana than Joe. ;-)

Well-written. I like it.

We are in a Kafkaesque situation ...

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora:

From what I can gather, sounds like Mike Kafka and Brian Hoyer the only 2 QBs being worked out by the Steelers Tues. They intend to sign one

and:

Steelers talked to Dennis Dixon but he opted top stay on Ravens practice squad.

Hope the D can pitch a shutout every game. Like normal the season rests on the defenses shoulders.

They'll like Kafka more than Hoyer. Kafka could be a good long term backup prospect.

Did anyone mention that we are SCREWED?

If they have intentions of bringing back Johnson, working out Kafka & Hoyer wouldn't change that. They know what they have in Johnson. Working out two more just adds more nuts to the bowl. They may feel Kafka or Hoyer are better at the end of the day & sign one.

If this is the route we are going they should also work out Stephen McGee, the former Cowboys back-up. I think he is better than both Kafka & Hoyer.

No, so go ahead and mention it if you have to:-)

You just can't do that in this league and expect to actually contend. Sure, you can maybe even put up a winning record, if you are lucky, but as we saw in SF last night, a good D without any decent O isn't enough when you play decent teams; it just doesn't work.

This is like picking which pile of dog crap we want. "Ohhhh, no this pile of crap over here is better than that pile of crap." Like they said in the movie, "Meatballs" - it just doesn't matter.

By the way, I watched some of that move last weekend, and was a little shocked at how powerfully unfunny it was. I recall back in the day, that some people thought this movie was a real hoot. It isn't. It's actually just horrible.

Pretty sure we saw that Sunday night at Heinz Field. The D pretty much pitched a shutout and we still lost. Two turnovers that were right there for FG's and a special team TD. Piss poor. Think about it...we would of probably been better off running the wildcat with direct snaps to RB's after that first TD.....

One thing is for sure: He won't be calling any audibles.

If he wants to change a play he will have to fill out a request form and file it in triplicate with Tomlin, Rooney and Steely McBeam. If they all agree the play will be changed but only after notifying NORAD via an encrypted telegram. If Tomlin and Rooney agree, but McBeam objects, the request will be escalated for approval by the Dalai Lama and Hugo Chavez.

EDIT: I forgot to add that if the Dalai Lama and Hugo Chavez can't agree, they will decide via pistols at dawn on the dark side of the moon.

LMAO. Did I miss something? Did they change the play at the goal line that went over like a wet turd?

Hoyer will be a good stop gap once Batch is injured and will allow us to win on Sunday, then little Ben will be popped out by our next Ravens game and Big Ben will be back on the field. The defense looks good, the running game looks good and we make a Super Bowl run.

How can you say this??... all the pundits said the Steelers had the deepest/best backup QBs in the league...

On the one hand you can't say we are lucky to have Leftwich and Batch as backups and then say "we are screwed"....
