Think we can get through the next game or two with only 2 QBs?

We should have never let go of Jerrod Johnson to begin with.

Since we're into old guys, how bout bringing in Kurt Warner and Tommy Maddox for a look see? They're the same generation as Batch/Lefty.

Premature I know, but as both Byron & Charlie are made of glass, here are some street FAs of interest...

- David Garrard
- Sage Rosenfels
- Troy Smith
- Vince Young

Ryan Leaf gets his sentence; has terribly low self-esteem

A pair of noteworthy San Diego Chargers hit milestones in opposite directions this week. For LaDainian Tomlinson, things were about as good as they get. For Ryan Leaf, well, things are every bit as bad for him as they appear to be in the picture above. The sentence he got from a judge in Great Falls, Mont., on Tuesday does keep him out of jail, but at this point, even that might be a loss for Leaf. He'd been behind bars since April 2 and called that time a "sanctuary."
He also offered these three statements to the court. First, speaking of his parents, who were not at the hearing:
"They believe I've held them for ransom for 36 years, and I don't understand why I should have to do that any more."
"I'm lazy, and dishonest and selfish. These were behaviors I had before my addiction kicked in."
"Five to 10 years of Ryan-free drama for my family, this community — particularly for this nation — would be pure bliss for people."
It might be pretty nice for Ryan, too. It's just that he's shown a remarkable inability to live that drama-free life he spoke of.
Leaf's been fighting a painkiller addiction, one that's driven him to multiple acts of burglary over the past few years. Police found stolen prescriptions drugs in Leaf's possession back in March, when he was already on probation. Released on bail, Leaf then robbed a mobile home in search of more pills. He still has outstanding charges in Texas, too.
Leaf was, in 1998, the second overall pick in the NFL draft, and considered by some to be a better quarterback prospect than the man who went first, Peyton Manning. Leaf never adjusted to being an NFL quarterback, though, mostly due to the laziness, selfishness and dishonesty he cited above. He is considered to be the biggest draft bust in NFL history.
Unfortunately, he hasn't fared much better as a citizen. I hope for the best for the guy, but at this point, when he's on his 48th chance and he's begging for jail time, I don't know that there's much left to hope for.

Brian Hoyer was cut by the Patriots just before the start of the season.

Pretty sure he can throw a pass for more than thirty yards, and he has a release that's been timed at less than 10 seconds. :D

Just kidding - tough game for you guys to lose - defense was outstanding.

The Ravens look very ordinary when they're playing away from their own stadium.

Bbbbbbbb that's a scary list. But we have to sign a QB. I'd probably take Garrard at this point. At least he's a "team guy" unlike VY.

Plus he has a history of replacing Byron. Is he healthy?

I've also considered VY for one reason. If Ben can't come back and for some reason we had to go to Houston for a playoff game, VY could earn his redemption in Texas. We look like the type of team that could carry Kordell Stewart again.

Wouldn't it be funny if we sign Garrard and cut Lefty? Deja vu for the big man!

I just hope we draft a QB next year between rounds 4-6.
...and no more Tee Martin's or Omar Jacobs or Dennis Dixon.

Dennis Dixon should be available as soon as the Ravens cut him again:-)

I know there won't be alot of sympathy for Ryan but I get it. Sounds like he has finally seen enough pain to open his ears. I'll be pulling for him.

Whoever mentioned Tebow...well I might be the only who would love to see him in the Burgh...but yeah I would like to see him in the Burgh. Tough, good character, winner, and a perfect guy to have as a back up.

As a backup QB I would have no issue with it at all. I just wouldn't want the sideshow that comes along with it.

I agree. He will be limited as a QB but the "Tebow circus" is more trouble than it is worth as the Jets are finding out. IMO Tebow needs to go play in Canada where he could star in their game with larger fields and his running ability.

Don't be surprised if the Jags get him in the off season. They need a publicity stunt to save their franchise.

We need to do that sooner rather than later. I really surprised we didn't draft a developmental QB this past draft.

I was thinking if we could get him out he would fit right right in with our throw back uniform's :-)

Seriously, did Tyler Palko really suck the big wazoo that much?

He knows the playbook better than any other alternative out there, he's got legs, he's in Pittsburgh. Why not slap him with a bumblebee?

And to top it off, he apparently is currently working for Northwestern Insurance Company as an agent. Surely his deal could be sweetened with some kind of retroactive policies on our previous 3 QBs (Big Ben, Willis, and Charlie Batch - the Human Pringle). Win-win for everyone! :-)

Steelers are bringing in Mike Kafka (former Eagle)

11-20-2012, 01:55 AM
So who here can answer if Kafka can win a game or more if needed? I have no faith in Batch making it through the browns game! Should we try to trade for a real#2? Or just wait to draft another project QB after round 4?
If we did trade for #2 Who would you guys really like to see? I like a Matt Moore, McCoy, Tarvaris Jackson for a back up off the top of my head. No to Tebow!! I also thought David Garrard was playing ok in the preseason? Wow did we end up screwed. I hope Batch can prove me very wrong.
It must be a newer thing in the NFL that a bunch of teams carry one back up and no QB on the practice squad. Thats interesting to me.

I would have thought that Tyler Palko would get a tryout with the Steelers since he played for Todd Haley in KC and has a grasp of his offense.

I don't like Palko at all. In another thread someone asked if us Steeler fans remember him playing us. I kind of do and he stinks if I remember right. Maybe Kafka can play well in Haley's offense? I know I am to young to have to watch the Steelers struggle after Ben is gone. :( All I want is a chance to win. Lefty almost gave us that. I Hope Batch can play well and not get hurt.

Report: Steelers to workout Brian Hoyer, Mike Kafka

Posted by Curtis Crabtree on November 20, 2012, 1:40 AM EST

With the Pittsburgh Steelers down to third-string quarterback Charlie Batch after injuries to Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich in consecutive weeks, the Steelers are looking to add another arm to their roster.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, the Steelers are expected to bring in free agent quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Mike Kafka for a tryout on Tuesday. Per the report, the Steelers intend on signing one of the two.

Hoyer was most recently with the New England Patriots before being released during final cuts in August. In three years with the Patriots, Hoyer completed 27 of 43 passes for 286 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Kafka spent his first two seasons in the league with the Philadelphia Eagles before also being released during final cuts this August. Kafka only saw playing time last season for the Eagles and completed 11 of 16 passes for 107 yards with two interceptions.
