I hope they consider starting Batch over Leftwich. IMHO Batch gives us the best chance to win on Sunday. Hes not mobile, but more mobile than Leftwich. Batch can make all the throws, and is better suited to run Haleys short passing offense. I really cant see Leftwich being incredibly effective given his slow release. Kind of hard to catch a 100 mile per hour bubble screen.

Got a text from Steelers.com..he's out. I trust the coaches over which QB takes over for Ben.. they see them every week in practice. if they say Lefty, then, he's the better option.

I suspect Haley will adapt to Byron's strengths. Wally may even benefit from more downfield passes.

The only thing that worries me is we're 2 plays away from no QB. Heck CBatch dressing in his uniform might be enough to get him injured.

Batch may have one of the weakest arms in the entire NFL. He overcomes this with great anticipation, intelligence, and accuracy. But, to say he "can make all the throws" is simply unture. You are correct that Leftwich's release is a problem, especially in this offense.

Not to mention, Batch seems to have the same bones as my grandmother.

First off, how often have we gone deep this year? Once, maybe twice a game. So maybe Byron is better at those throws. I guarantee you Batch is better at the rest of the throws. Ill take the guy who can make all the throws, (which in my opinion he can do) any day of the week. I disagree with you on Charlies arm strength. What do you base that assessment on? Perception is not always reality.

Leftwich isnt exactly a pillar of health.

Crap, ESPN talking heads are saying that Ben's related rib injury could be a bigger issue than his shoulder. They are talking weeks to months! Then again, they really like to over-dramatize things. I guess we will see.

Ben's probably the one feeding the media bad info so he'll seem heroic when he comes back.

What rib injury? I haven't heard anything about ribs.

Savarn this morning mentioned that Ben also has a "rib issue". No one from the Steelers are talking, so who knows.

The SC joint is where the collarbone connects to the sternum...that's part of the ribcage, of course...

I imagine everything is sore...

He probably has broken toes too.

If Ben is being evaluated by the same people that Troy is being evaluated by, then you can expect it to be a lot longer than what we all want.

Or we can expect them to lie about what the real injury is.

Just heard on 93.7 The Fan, that the rib is broken (near the clavicle) and is pressing backwards toward the aorta. This has to heal.

So...Ben is now on maternity leave for a few months!

With Ben any speculation on how long he is going to be out is pointless. It wouldn't surprise me if Ben is out for a month. It wouldn't surprise me if Ben plays vs Cleveland.

Roethlisberger has rare, potentially dangerous rib injury

November 14, 2012
By Ed Bouchette / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said today that he has a partially dislocated rib that could make it dangerous for him to play again until it heals.

Roethlisberger said the rib injury is a bigger concern than the shoulder sprain. He said his doctor told him that the rib injury could kill him by pressing against his aorta and that it is so rare that the last time the doctor saw a similar injury was in a rugby player in 1998.

The Steelers said today that backup quarterback Byron Leftwich will start when they play the Baltimore Ravens at home Sunday night.

We're screwed. Of all the times we have seen Ben get blasted, that hit seemed completely harmless at the time.

Any QBs available on the waiver wire? What's Brett Favre doing these days? Beside sending pictures on his phone?

From the Ravens' Terrell Suggs today on the toughness of #7:

“Until the ball is snapped, I’m still preparing as if he’s playing,” Suggs said, via Edward Lee of the Baltimore Sun. “Like I said, I saw the guy play on a broken ankle when he came down here, and we even broke his nose, and the guy continued to play, and if you all recall, it didn’t pan out too good for us at the end of that game. So like I said, until that ball is snapped when we’re on the field and [the Ravens offense is] off the field, I’m not ruling him out. You can never question this guy’s toughness. Guys like that are what this game is about

Gotta admit...that was a cool statement by Suggs.

the only name I've seen linked to us that seemed plausible was David Garrard and we would only sign him if either Leftwich or Batch were injured.
