With some of the recent FA signings, some teams once thought to potentially have interest no longer have the need (and in some cases cap space). Still there are some legitimate possibilities. To be clear, I don't think it will happen, but the possibility exists for these clubs.
The main contenders are the Bengals and the Broncos in my opinion. These teams both have about 40 million in cap space.
Broncos-This possibility is completely contingent on Peyton coming to Denver. If the Broncos sign Peyton Manning they will be looking for weapons for him. Currently their starting WRs are Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas with only Jason Hill, no names, and Tyler Grisham behind them. Wallace would be a great addition to this team that already has a decent offensive line and defense. If you are going to invest in Peyton Manning, you'd better be sure he has some weapons to throw to. They could afford Wallace and giving up the 25th pick. If they get Peyton, they will spend to the cap to win now. They know his window for a championship won't be open long.
Bengals-Certainly, Wallace is a vertical outside the numbers player and so is A.J. Green. This may look like a redundancy and poor business (to wrap up too much money in WRs). But, looking at Green's contract (4 yr 19.6 million) they really don't have that much wrapped up in him for the foreseeable future. Also, Dalton is a great bargain for the next 3 seasons. The Bengals have a ton of cap space and this would be a huge public relations/ticket selling/marketing tool. Folks here in the Cincinnati area HATE the Steelers. The Bengals will need to get to the cap next season as per the new CBA. Signing Wallace is well within their means, provides them with an exciting high scoring product to put on the field, and weakens their bitter rivals. Imagine, Wallace and Green on the outside, Jordan Shipley in the slot, and Gresham at TE. That is pretty impressive.
Less likely contenders...
Patriots. They now have Llyod and Welker. They still have the means. But, I don't see it happening. If it were more of a need and Brady threw a great deep ball (which he doesn't), I'd think it was a much greater possibility.
49ers. Harbaugh is nuts. The Moss contract is a no risk deal. If he signs Manning and he stays healthy, he could assemble perhaps the greatest offense in the league with the addition of Wallace. This is very unlikely. But, it is possible.
Anyone else I'm missing?
