We previously mentioned that the Jets had interest (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/14/jets-interested-in-reuniting-with-cotchery/) in bringing free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1618/jerricho-cotchery) back to New York. They have competition.
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Cotchery is scheduled to visit (https://twitter.com/#!/TheJetsStream/statuses/181069210254966785) the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday and Tuesday.
Several members of Kansas City’s coaching staff have coached against Cotchery in the AFC East, including former Patriots defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel and former Patriots wide receivers coach Brian Daboll. Crennel is now Chiefs head coach and Daboll coordinates the offense. Daboll was on the Jets’ staff as quarterbacks coach in 2007 and 2008, when Cotchery enjoyed two of his better seasons.
In K.C., Cotchery would compete for playing time with Steve Breaston (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4261/steve-breaston) and second-year wideout Jonathan Baldwin (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6431/jonathan-baldwin).

I would hope that Cotchery allows the Steelers to match any offer he receives before deciding to sign elsewhere.

After seeing what the WR market has shaped up to be, I'm confident the Steelers WON'T be able to match any offer Cotchery receives...nor should they, frankly, for a #3 or #4 receiver.

I'd love to see him come back to the Black and Gold, but I think the only way that happens is if he gives the Steelers a discount.

We need someone to fill some roster spots. I would like to have him back for insurance. That or we end up drafting a WR yet again. Last year was the first year I can remember we didn't draft one.

I dont look at it as filling a roster spot, we desperately need an experienced WR to help with these young guys. Ward wont be there and Cotchery could fill that role nicely. Problem for the Steelers is Cotchery probably thinks he can be a #2 in this league (which, for a few teams, is very true).

As much as we all love Cotchery- the #4 WR position could be filled just as easily by a Lee Evans or Deion Branch- both on the downside of their careers, but easily role-players & experienced vets.

No need to overpay Cotchery.

I'd like insurance that we keep Wallace before he walks away.

Brown is good, but Sanders has yet to show he can stay healthy. No Cotch, no Wallace means we are immediately WR poor. Hopefully we keep Hines number handy.

Pretty sure he won't sign with the Jets. He didn't like the locker room. Said he wanted a family environment.

I'm not sure that we are a "poor" WR group as much as thin. I could see Hines getting call, but far more likely is that our draft priorities would change. Remember, Sanders and Wallace were 3rd Rounders and Brown a 6th. Not sure we would see a WR taken before Round 3. However, I would not be totally shocked to see us taking a pass catching TE very early and if we took Coby Fleenor in Round 1 it would not thrill me but neither would it shock me.

I agree with what you're saying but just say no to Lee Evans. Watching him drop that game winning touchdown leaves me still SMH, and I was rooting against the ravens. Let him go ruin it for some other team.

Update on Cotchery's status, per PFT......

Chiefs could catch Cotchery Posted by Mike Florio on March 23, 2012, 9:40 AM EDT

Veteran receiver Jerricho Cotchery (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1618/jerricho-cotchery), who eventually assumed the Hines Ward role in the Steelers’ offense last year, could be finding a role in the Chiefs’ offense in 2012.

Cotchery, per a league source, visited Kansas City on Thursday.

An eight-year veteran, Cotchery spent seven seasons with the Jets before joining the Steelers in 2011. A full-time starter from 2006 through 2009, Cotchery could bring some extra toughness and reliability to the receiving corps, along with the kind of leadership qualities that will be missing if (as assumed) running back Thomas Jones (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/2408/thomas-jones) doesn’t return.

UPDATE 10:39 a.m. ET: A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Cotchery actually visited the Chiefs earlier in the week. However, the official NFL documentation indicates that the visit occurred on Thursday.

LOL, not really much of an update though.....
