Only thing that can end your season is a TD.

Mundy and Troy did not have particularly good games, but I wonder how much of the last play was the defensive scheme that was called?

An incredible fact that we had no safety even moderately deep in overtime. I hope we hear some explanation.

Mundy dropped down to the LOS on the play. For some reason Ike played outside and let Thomas get inside. Not sure if it was Ike mistake or Mundy mistake.

A 74 yr old call.
Senile at best.
Please don't try to shift the blame. Ike's man, who "he shadows all over the field" (i.e. he always covers the best WR), let his man have a FIFTY YARDS per catch game. And he let him have FOUR catches. Talk scheme all you want, but this stupid, stone handed, deluded MF'r single-handedly lost this game.

@shoe,
I think the question is still relevant, regardless of who you want to blame. With the only way of losing is scoring a TD...why wouldn't there be any Safety deep to ensure no one gets past for a fluke TD.
You give up a 10 yard run to Tebow, you still have another play...Cover 1 that's all you need.
If you want to assess blame...there is plenty to go around everywhere. Dropped balls, bad throws, O-Line mistakes, D-Line mistakes, coverage.
Hell the only thing that was good today was our Special Teams.

Our arrogant defensive coordinator lost this game for us. Scoring 23 points should have been double what we needed but we saw the same "I can't be wrong with my system," template rolled out with no adjustments to anything Denver was doing successfully.

Cover 0 is not a good defensive set for this kind of overtime.

if we're ranked #1 in rushing defense
why the hell do you need 9 men in the box to stop it?

we are not #1 in rush defense. I saw that CBS posted that too, and it was not the only fact they had wrong. You'd think with a national stage they could do a little better than that.
I would say it was the wrong call by the defense given the new OT rules, whether it was Troy, Mundy, or LeBeau.

Secondary was brutal today. No way would I have thought that we lose after putting up 23 points.
The O can take their share of the blame, but this one was lost in the secondary IMO.

I don't understand why we had to commit so many defenders to the run. I don't care if we are #1 or number #5 there is no reason for DB's to get burnt like that because they are peaking in the backfield

Forgive me for asking, but why did the game end after that play...I thought the point of the rules were that both teams were supposed to get a possession?

if its only a FG they get.
1st team to score a TD bascially or if they both kick a FG with their 1st possesions...the next score

Given that this was the first game ever to use these rules you gotta wonder if old habits die hard.
Sometimes you outthink yourself.
It was definitely bad all day...it seemed that the Was so fearful of the run they never adjusted to cover the pass.
What is sad is I bet the Pats do a much better job of shutting this down and regardless of how I feel now...I think the steeler D is far superior to the Pats.
That's why I say it's scheme. this one is on the coaches IMHO.

1. Did Tomlin/Lebeau know the rules?
2. I suspect it was Mundy's fault given the way Ike played the receiver and gave him the inside but there was no one to help.

:Agree
Helluva way to end the season. Secondary sh!t the bed without our DB QB back there tonight. And I always professed Ike's strength to be his tackling ability. Male Genitalia LeBeau's defensive scheme depends on Ike being able to bring his man down (OR RC bailing him out) when he's left alone, giving his man a huge cushion and a "gimme" reception. FAIL!

Not only that, but McClendon, Hood and Heyward played well today. Heyward, I thought, played very good, the one handed tackle was sick.

I wonder how much we'll ever actually really learn about that last defensive play. I didn't notice - did we try to blitz on that play? I've got to believe the chances that the coaches didn't know the rules was about zero, as they announced them at the beginning of OT. Is there going to be a Tuesday presser like in the regular season?
Ike is the biggest goat in Steeler history, going back to O'Donnell, and at least in that case there's a possibility he was throwing to a spot and the receiver broke the wrong way.

The Bronco tendency was clearly to run on 1st downs. Fox knew it, he knew we knew it too, and he exploited it intentionally. Both our safeties were down inside the box pre-snap, anticipating the run. It was described in an article in either the PG or the Trib sites.

This team believed they were playing a scrub lucky quarterback and gave no respect to over the top help.
The Steelers allowed a guy with the passing rating prior to this game of 41 to now have a passer rating of 125.
These Steelers got out coaches at every level and Ike didn't do his homework either. Lebeau should have had Ike get help when he seen things weren't going his way . Double coverage would have helped Ike. And this defense was worrying too much about Tebows running.
The best defense could have been a better offense on the Steeler side of the ball but hey, why not continue to make a banged up Ben throw when Redman was having a field day with their defense ?

Outcoached big time. At what point do you realize that Ike couldn't cover that guy ? He's out there competing but it just wasn't happening. Give him some friggin safety help.

This right here! The Steelers didn't believe that Tebow could make those throws. The TD on which Gay was beat and the first big play that Ike gave up were the receivers making a play and our DBs didn't. The big plays after that were simply believing that Tebow would make bad throws and he did, but he a handful of good throws and that was enough.

Remember last season in the playoff against the Jets - a microphone caught Rex Ryan saying "there is absolutley NO way they throw it here" and then Ben hit Miller with a pass that basically sealed the game? I think that's what happened here. The Steelers just didn't beleive they would risk throwing, certainly not on first down and had the wrong formation called.

Troy and Mundy didn't play their best but there is plenty of blame to go around. Mundy has been adequate when replacing a injured troy but he's not a FS.
It's obvious how much Clark means to this secondary both from a cerebral and physical standpoint. I'm not saying Clark is a pro bowler but he is under appreciated imo.
With that being said, we need a FS of the future. 2012 draft: FS, Guard, ILB

Timmons was persona non grata for at least half the season. and Farrior really needs to move on with his life's work. He looks great at the beginning of a season, but fades badly as it wears on.
