With Curtis Brown on I.R. and Cortez Allen hurt (don't know the extent of the injury), we are short on special teams coverage guys. As long as Madison stays on special teams, he can be an asset. If he has to play on defense, well, that's another story.

OMG. This is a stupid move. The guy couldn't cover a bed with a blanket when he was in game shape. We must be desperate. I guess this is a case of "knowing the complex defense" winning out over having any NFL caliber talent.

Our opponent's primary read in the play offs will be look for Anthony Madison. Second read will be look for William Gay.

I tend to agree with Ruthless. If this is just a move for special teams, which would make sense with Allen and Brown both banged up, this is fine.

If the Steelers need Madison to play a role on D, then the Steelers are in trouble.

Since this is such a stupid move, who would you recommend at this point in the season?

Gay is way better than McFadden at this point. Way better.

One of our practice squad defensive linemen can cover better than Madison.......

Damn...I forgot Bmac was on the field too yesterday. We are scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Thank God we play Tebow first but if our pass defense has to rely on Madison, Bmac and Gay we are totally screwed when we play the Patriots.

Amazing how a position of evolving strength can go into the crapper in just a couple of weeks due to injuries. Our secondary was becoming legit and now we will go back to being as bad as last year.

Probably another special teams body fellas.
I wouldnt get too excited expecting him to play DB.
How much dime coverage you think we're going to play against Denver really?

I agree philly.... how can anyone believe there is ANY decent CB ready to play at this point in the season who is just waiting by the phone? Madison is a good pickup at this very late point in the season. If he has to play on defense at all, he will likely only need to cover for a dozen passes or so from vaunted Tebow

.... more people with disdain for a FO that has proven itself time and again..... will it never end?

I forgot there were so many quality corners available on the open market? Relax...as others have said, this is strictly a ST move.

Great Move . . .
It never ceases to amaze me how people think the Steelers can jump on the phone and make a trade for Revis ("on the cheap" no less).

Madison is here for special teams and depth. Good depth?? No...but what other options do we have??? None!

Nope. What upsets me is the thinly veiled bust on Lebeau's defense in particular. Yes, we have a complicated defense. Move on.

I'd imagine if the primary reason for this signing was for special teams, re-signing Madison was the right move...if the signing was for cornerback skills, I'd imagine that signing preseason free agent sensation Donovan Warren would have made more sense.

Madison right back in the fold with Steelers

By Scott Brown, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Anthony Madison re-signed with the Steelers on Tuesday, and the cornerback and special teams standout worked out at the team's South Side practice facility. Madison, who has spent time with the Steelers every season since 2006, is expected to play in Denver. Cornerback Cortez Allen likely is out because of a separated shoulder.

Allen has been playing the gunner position on the punt coverage team, and the Steelers are "a little thin at gunner-like bodies," coach Mike Tomlin said. "This is a guy that taught quite a few of our players around here how to play the position, so we're very comfortable having him back in the fold,"

Tomlin said. Madison took the place of running back Rashard Mendenhall on the 53-man roster. The Steelers placed Mendenhall on injured reserve a day after an MRI confirmed that he had torn the ACL in his right knee.

>> Tomlin said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger may be limited early this week in practice because of his left high-ankle sprain, but that the injury won't affect his availability for Sunday. Cornerback Keenan Lewis (hamstring) and tight end David Johnson (elbow) also are nursing minor injuries. Lewis left the game Sunday with a tender hamstring, and he underwent an MRI as a precaution.

"Very little or no damage," Tomlin said. "We anticipate him being fine."

>> Isaac Redman has become the Steelers' No. 1 running back, and Tomlin said he has no concerns with any aspect of Redman's game. Redman lost two fumbles in a 13-9 win at Cleveland on Sunday, though it was the first game in which he has fumbled this season.

"We're very comfortable with his ball security and how he runs," Tomlin said.

I also immediately thought about Warren but didn't know if he ever got picked up. I also assumed this was a "knowing the scheme" thing too which Madison probably does more than Warren would. Guess it doesn't matter that Madison can't execute the scheme :stirpot
