There were more Steelers Pro Bowl alternates than first or second, but the team did not announce the rest, perhaps for good reason. One good reason: Chris Kemoeatu, now buried on the depth chart, is a third alternate guard. That means, if for some reason three guards back out, are hurt or their team makes the Super Bowl, Kemo will make the Pro Bowl after first losing his starting job to Doug Legursky and now Trai Essex, who will start there on Sunday in Cleveland.

Other alternates: Brett Keisel is a third alternate, Lawrence Timmons a fourth alternate and Antonio Brown is the No. 5 wide receiver. Brown likely will see action in the Pro Bowl at wide receiver besides his duties as a punt/kick returner.

Ben Roethlisberger, by the way, looked fine in practice, according to teammates.

"He looked all right,'' Hines Ward said. "I don't know if he really ran around or stuff like that. He looked good so, with a week, he's feeling a little better, it definitley helped him.

"I'm sure he wants to get a little playing time before we head to the playoffs, considering we don't know the circumstances of what's going to happen."

Tackle Max Starks didn't have the best view of Roethlisberger since he lines up to block in front of him but said "He didn't seem like anything was wrong" and predicted he wojuld start: "I would assume so if he's taking snaps, yeah.''

This might have something to do with the myth around the league that we still have a dominant o-line and running game.

Perhaps the fans voted him in...?
Maybe because he has the look of a big ugly...?
Perplexing....

Kemo has often been the best player on the field for the opposing defense, so perhpas this factored in.

This would be dumbfounding. I'm certain even Kemo himself would say he's completely unworthy.

I can already hear Kemo's agent looking to re-negotiate his deal.

Steelers please trade Pro-Bowler Kemo for a 3rd Rd draft pick in 2012 draft.

My finest morphed into my sig. I'm pretty sucky at photoshop for the most part, but adding the terrible towels to Gladiator turned out pretty sweet, I think. Of course, I added AA's RuthlessBurgher sig, plus the Billy Madison stupidity quote, making it a bit bulkier over the years, but I think the original photoshop holds up reasonably well.

Love your sig, RB. Always wondered though...if Maximus is the Steelers, what team is the guy he's fighting??

Hmmm...never thought of that before. Even though his helmet is not bird-like, we'll call it the Ravens (the hip armor appears somewhat feather-like, I suppose, and the rest of his armor seems to have a fur-like appearance, similar to one of those gaudy fur coats that Ray Lewis would wear back in the day), simply because he appears to be our main rival in the foreground, with some guys wearing orange in the far background (the Browns), and a tiger in between them (the Bengals).

I was thinking Ravens too.

Funny about Ray Lewis and the fur coats!! And don't forget Ray's obvious skill with a blade!!

And most of the time, Goodell makes about as much sense as Joaquin Phoenix made on the Letterman show.

However, every time I even glance at that stupid little elf, it feels like my testosterone level is starting to decrease...

Kemoeatu likely to return to starting lineup

December 29th, 2011

It wouldn’t be a normal week for the Steelers unless there was some shuffling along the offensive line.

The latest change will apparently come at left guard with Chris Kemoeatu likely to return to the starting lineup in Cleveland.

Trai Essex has started the last two games at left guard. They were the two contests that, not coincidentally, followed Kemoeatu’s dubious hat trick against the Browns on Dec. 8.

But Essex moved to center last Saturday because of a shoulder injury to Doug Legursky, and Kemoeatu played most of the way at left guard.

Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians praised Kemoeatu’s play against St. Louis, saying, “He looks healthy again.”

Practicality is also a major reason why the Steelers are likely to go with Kemoeatu over Essex this week at left guard. With Legursky out because of a shoulder injury and Maurkice Pouncey coming off an ankle injury the Steelers are still in a very precarious situation at center.

They were so thin after Essex moved over from left guard last Saturday that a one-armed Legursky was their emergency center had something happened to Essex.

They can’t afford for Essex to get hurt this week, especially since there are no guarantees that Pouncey will make it through the entire game.

Essex received the highest praise from Mike Tomlin for the job he did while filling in at center last Saturday, and his versatility again works against him.

But the prudent play in Cleveland is to start Kemoeatu at left guard and save Essex as Pouncey insurance.

Hopefully others get healthy for the playoffs, but I'm fine with Kemo against the Browns.

Does anybody have the video clip of Kemo pulling right and chasing a Browns DB 15 yards downfield? The DB saw him coming and literally turned and ran away from the play. Pretty funny.

Maybe if enough Steeler fans vote for him to the pro bowl, some team will sign him away from us ?

Is there anyone else on the roster that can play center besides Pouncey, Legursky and Essex??

Deebo. Then Goodell will suspend him for hitting a nose tackle too hard.

Kemo a Pro Bowler?

Just goes to show what a joke the Pro Bowl has become. It's now almost entirely irrelevant. I stopped watching it several years back.

Just don't have him snap out of the shotgun formation...he'll launch that thing right over the QB's head and out of the end zone.
