From what the article also said ... looks like Tomlin may break one of his own rules ... play Ben on Monday without practice if he is ready to go.

Big practice day on Saturday. I think that will tell us who will give it a go on Monday night.

Yup...with the Monday game this week, our practice days are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday instead of the usual Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, so these guys still have one more opportunity to get a day of practice under their belts.

Roethlisberger 'limited participant' in Friday practice

Saturday, December 17, 2011

The Steelers listed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as a limited participant in practice Friday. He didn't practice Thursday. Roethlisberger is nursing a high-ankle sprain, and coach Mike Tomlin has said he needs to practice at least once, if only in a limited capacity, to play Monday night in San Francisco. The Steelers hold their final practice of the week today. Roethlisberger was not in the Steelers' locker room yesterday while it was open to reporters. He availability Monday could be a game-time decision.

Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey, who also is nursing a high-ankle sprain, did not practice yesterday. Also missing practice for a second consecutive day were strong safety Troy Polamalu (hamstring), receiver Emmanuel Sanders (knee) and outside linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring). Receiver Arnaz Battle (hamstring) and cornerback Curtis Brown (knee) were limited in practice for a second day in a row.

Right tackle Marcus Gilbert returned to practice after getting a bit of a scare Wednesday night. "They thought my appendix burst, so I was in the hospital all day Thursday getting IV fluids and just taking tests," Gilbert said. Gilbert said he was diagnosed with an infection but that he should be fine for the 49ers game. "I just need to keep taking my meds and get as much rest as possible," he said.

Inside linebacker James Farrior was not fined for his personal-foul penalty during the Steelers' 14-3 win over the Cleveland Browns on Dec. 9.

The Steelers have won six consecutive "Monday Night Football" games.

49ers running back Frank Gore has the second-most yards from scrimmage (9,113) since 2006.

Haven't heard much about Troy's hammy - could be the key to the game, given all the other injuries ...
