1. The Steelers managed to beat the Browns in a physical game. Credit to the Browns for making it more interesting than last week’s Bengal-fueled mayhem.
2. Much is being made of Kemoeatu’s quality of play (or lack thereof). I chalked the NUMEROUS penalties up to the fact that Kemo was merely trying to protect his hobbled QB.
3. Another notable about this game was the officiating. It seem like the officials were making as many waves as the players were. Which brings us to …
4. Eddie Hoc #1: Is it just me, or is Ed Hochuli a poser?

5. Eddie Hoc #2: Did you notice that it wasn’t merely enough to say that the player cradled the ball in the crook of his arm? … Ed had to show us how that looks.

6. GOOD push from the Steelers defense on Cleveland’s third and goal! The Browns offense never had a chance with that much penetration.
7. The Steelers first drive looked like they are in fast forward compared to the Browns. But alas, yet another game where the Steelers started fast and slowed noticeably as the game wore on. Of course, there was an obvious excuse this time around.

8. Eddie Hoc #3: Did you see a panicked Ed Hochuli trying to keep Worilds away from Colt after Colt ran out of bounds in the first quarter. Apparently Ed was thinking early on that the game would turn ugly if he wasn’t quick with the flags.
9. Eddie Hoc #4: What the heck was he looking at?! That ball did not hit the ground.
10. Eddie Hoc #5: Roughing the passer called against the Browns when they hit Ben?! Hey Ed, didn’t you get the memo? You are allowed to keelhaul Ben Roethlisberger. All other QBS must be protected like the precious snowflakes they are. Which brings us to …

17. Ben takes the field in the second half. I could hear his huge brass balls clanging all the way down in Houston. The parallels between Ben’s showmanship and Bradshaw’s are undeniable.
18. I was loving what I was seeing from this team in the second half . There seemed to be a definitive shift in mindset and execution. Its almost like they decided that they were going to run the ball whether the Browns wanted to let them or not. The Steelers showed that they could assert their will on an opponent and succeed.
19. Loved the play calling in the second half. Mendy and Redman running hard again – like men on a mission. If this team’s physical nature can be awakened they could go far.
20. I like how Mendy doesn’t find it necessary to stare at the fans after a good run.
21. Going for it on 4th down wasn’t just about the Steelers O – it was also about the Steelers D and the Browns O as well. The result was less than optimal but I like the call in that situation, at that part of the field, with an injured QB.
22. Willie Gay might get routinely beat like a drum and burnt to a smoldering crisp, but he has made two huge plays this year … just at the right time to end that last Browns drive.

23. Perspective: In many ways this game was about Ben. It was about the way he guided the team through the Browns offense like a knife through hot butter in the first quarter. It was about the way he took the field in the second half and limped his way through plays. It was about the difference between a bloodied Colt McCoy trying to lead his team to victory and a one-legged Ben succeeding. And it was about an offense and a defense finding itself again at long last. Champions are forged in such fires as we witnessed on Sunday.
It is not a unique or original thought. It is a thoroughly redundant thought: this team rises and falls with Ben Roethlisberger. As much as last year’s Super Bowl sucked … give me 80 yards, 2 minutes, 2 timeouts and Big Ben under center every time. He can win with one leg tied behind his back.
