Tweak?

Or out for precautionary reasons, but no re-injury?

I say sit him on Thursday either way ("Send in the Clowns")!

Give him this Thursday's game off and he will have another 10 days to get well. Need him to be 100% going into the play offs.

Tomlin not ruling out Woodley, Foster for Thursday

By Scott Brown, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Monday, December 5, 2011

Despite a short week, coach Mike Tomlin hasn't ruled out outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley or right guard Ramon Foster for Thursday night when the Steelers host the Browns.

Woodley played sparingly in the Steelers' 35-7 win against the Bengals yesterday, while Foster left the game in the third quarter with a sprained ankle.

Tomlin said Foster is questionable to play in the 8:20 p.m. game Thursday and that Woodley is "still in play" for the AFC North contest.

Tomlin hesitated to say Woodley had taken a step back yesterday, but he acknowledged the Steelers' sacks leader had been on a snap count against the Bengals one that he didn`t reach.

"I don't know if you want to characterize it as setback at this point," Tomlin said today at his weekly news conference. "The week will provide that legitimate information for us. Obviously he felt something and he was mature enough to not do any further damage to do it. We`ll see if that provides an opportunity to put him in play this week."

Tomlin is hopeful that Larry Foote, who missed yesterday's game with a hamstring injury, will be able to return Thursday. Outside linebacker Chris Carter and wide receiver Arnaz Battle, who are also battling hamstring injuries, are not expected to play against the Browns.

In other injury news, Tomlin said running back Jonathan Dwyer and nose tackle Chris Hoke are visiting doctors today because of foot and neck injuries, respectively.

Hoke is dealing with lingering effect from the stinger that he sustained earlier this season, Tomlin said.

Woodley: Hamstring will be issue rest of the season

By Scott Brown
PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Sunday, December 4, 2011

LaMarr Woodley is hopeful he will play Thursday night after sitting out the final three quarters today at Heinz Field.

But the Steelers' outside linebacker said his hamstring will likely be an issue the rest of the season, necessitating some sort of platoon with Jason Worilds at left outside linebacker.

"You've got to be smart about the hamstring injuries and can't play the entire game anyway," Woodley said after the Steelers' 35-7 win over the Bengals. "It's a rotation that's probably going to be going on the rest of the year."

Woodley said he and Worilds were supposed to share snaps today, his first game back after missing the Steelers' previous three contests.

Woodley said his hamstring got "tired," and that the Steelers played it safe with him, especially after they started pulling away from the Bengals.

"I plan on going out there and playing again on Thursday but you have to take the (cautious) approach," said Woodley, who leads the Steelers with nine sacks. "Fresh off these hamstring injuries you're not going to go out there and be able to play 80 snaps. It's just not possible at this time."

A short week for the Steelers won't help Woodley they host the Browns on Thursday night but coach Mike Tomlin said, "he might be in play" for the game.

Report: LaMarr Woodley likely to sit

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley is considered "extremely doubtful" for Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Browns, a league source told NFL.com on Tuesday.

The Steelers are targeting their Dec. 19 game at San Francisco for Woodley's return, the source told the website.

Woodley, Pittsburgh's sacks leader with nine, tweaked his hamstring in Sunday's 35-7 rout of the Bengals and sat for the final three quarters. He had missed the previous three games with the same injury.

After the game, Woodley told reporters that he planned on playing against the Browns. A day later, coach Mike Tomlin didn't rule him out.

When Woodley returns, he is expected to split snaps with Jason Worilds because the hamstring injury will likely linger throughout the remainder of the season.

Jamison Hensley covers the AFC North for ESPN.com.

Whenever he gets healthy, if past performance is any indicator, he'll need about four more games to get back up to full production.

LaMarr might not be much of a factor until next season.

LaMarr might not be much of a factor until next season.

He'll be a factor in the playoffs. He's always a factor in the playoffs.

Two sacks in each of his first four playoff games. One sack in each of his next three playoff games. Eleven sacks in seven career playoff games.
