FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski said he apologized to team owner Robert Kraft after pictures of him with an adult film star appeared on Twitter during the team's bye week.

"I didn't intend anything to hurt the reputation of anyone on the New England Patriots or on behalf of Robert Kraft," said Gronkowski. "That's all, just a simple picture, that's all. From here on out, I'm just here to talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers and the big game this weekend."

Adult film star BiBi Jones posted photos of herself in Gronkowski's jersey standing with the tight end, who is shirtless.

She appeared on 98.5 the Sports Hub on Monday and said that the two of them share a mutual friend who played football with him at Arizona. Gronkowski was in Arizona at the time.

"I went into the room to take a picture with him and he said, 'Put on my jersey,'" Jones said to the radio station. "I asked him, 'Can I put these on my Twitter?' He was cool with it because I have more Twitter followers than him and he wanted me to get him more Twitter followers."

Jones added that nothing happened between the two of them, adding: "I wish something happened, but nothing happened."

Pressed on the matter Wednesday, Gronkowski tried to steer the conversation toward the Steelers. Asked if he had any regrets about the incident, Gronkowski reiterated his sentiment on the matter.

"[I was] not intending to hurt anyone or ruin the reputation of the New England Patriots in any way," he said. "[It's a] good organization here. ... I can't wait to get out to practice and focus on the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's all I'm worried about. It's all I care about."

Gronkowski, who played his senior year of high school near Pittsburgh, scored three touchdowns in last year's win over Pittsburgh. He said he's excited about going back to Heniz Field again this season with the opportunity to play in front of old friends. Much of his family also plans to make the trek down from upstate New York.

"It's definitely fun going back to wherever you spent time before in your life," said Gronkowski. "It's fun going back and playing in front of some friends and family."

Asked about how he ended up in Pittsburgh for his final year of high school, Gronkowski noted it was a long story. When a reporter said he had time, Gronkowski suggested to Google it. When the reporter shot back that he doesn't trust anything on the Internet, Gronkowski ended his time with the media in appropriate fashion.

"Me neither," he said with a smile before departing for a conference call with the Pittsburgh media.

1. If she wanted something to happen (she said she wishes it did) why would you pass that up if you were single? She's got tricks most ladies don't and certainly uses them!

2. Why is this even news. Should have told ESPN to pound salt when asked about it. It's just a picture. More people know about it because of ESPN/Boston.com than twitter.

Digging deeper....

Bibi Jones Gives Athletes Major Reasons To Avoid Her at All CostsBy Tim Daniels(Featured Columnist) on October 25, 2011

Porn star Bibi Jones has become a household name over the past few days after tweeting a picture of herself with New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. She has since been linked to hockey player Paul Bissonnette and baseball slugger Dan Uggla, according to Deadspin.

Now, in an interview with Business Insider, she says an agent who represents MLB players used her to lure potential clients.

"It wasn’t even expected for me to hook up with these guys," she said. "It was just like I was arm candy for him. I was the one that wanted to hook up with these guys."

She says she slept with "over 10" players in 2010, a few of whom she believes ended up signing with the agent.

It's clear that she's looking for a quick boost in popularity to help further her career, if that's what porn is considered nowadays, and has no problem throwing other people under the bus to make it happen. Not to mention her comments make her sound conceited.

Athletes should now be well aware of her tactics and need to avoid her at all costs.

Hooking up with her will surely lead to a myriad of personal problems, especially now that the paparazzi will be following her everywhere in an attempt to catch an unsuspecting athlete.

The entire situation illustrates what can happen to somebody who enjoys the spotlight a little too much. Uggla and Bissonnette will both be questioned continuously about their involvement with the porn star, and Gronkowski has already gotten more attention from it than he could have wanted.

As the old saying goes, loose lips sink ships. Jones clearly can't keep her mouth shut and, if her 15 minutes of fame don't expire soon, she'll likely expose other athletes too. The Deadspin report says she admits to being with several married athletes, and don't think the rumormongers aren't spending all day and night trying to discover those names.

After the Tiger Woods incident, athletes should understand secrets don't stay that way for long when somebody craves attention.

Jones needs to be avoided by anybody with a reputation to uphold, even if the meeting is purely casual, because being linked with her isn't going to be good news.

Patriots' TEs pose matchup problems

By Scott Brown, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski could be a problem for the Steelers defense to cover on Sunday.

The conundrum that some defensive coaches face from week to week Joe Whitt sees on a daily basis.

Whitt coaches Green Bay's defensive backs, and he can attest to the matchup problems caused by Packers tight end Jermichael Finley, who is big, fast and athletic.

"A corner's not big enough, (and) he'll outrun a linebacker," Whitt said, "so you try and put a safety type on him, and most safeties aren't athletic enough to match up on him."

Now consider that the New England Patriots have two emerging stars at tight end -- Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez -- and you get an idea of what the Steelers are up against Sunday at Heinz Field.

Gronkowski and Hernandez may test the Steelers' top-ranked pass defense as much as wideout Wes Welker.

Gronkowski and Hernandez have combined for almost 700 receiving yards and eight touchdowns this season. They are second and third, respectively, on the Patriots in receptions.

The Steelers haven't forgotten that the 6-foot-6, 265-pound Gronkowski caught all three touchdown passes Tom Brady threw against them last November. The 6-1, 245-pound Hernandez isn't as big, but he can be just as hard to defend because the former Florida star has the speed of a wideout.

Double trouble

The New England Patriots struck gold in taking tight ends in the second and fourth rounds of the 2010 draft. Here is how those tight ends have fared:

Year: G Rec. Yds. Avg. Long TD

Rob Gronkowski (second-round pick)

2011: 6 29 401 13.8 30 5
2010: 16 42 546 13.0 28 10

Aaron Hernandez (fourth-round pick)

2011: 4 27 289 10.7 30 3
2010: 14 45 563 12.5 46 6

The Patriots often play their second-year tight ends at the same time, but that does not make what they are doing unique.

"It is how effective they are at doing it and how they utilize those guys and how they are capable of getting them down the field," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "It's a special relationship they are forming there with their signal-caller."

Gronkowski's relationship with Hernandez is not unlike the one second-year wideouts Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown have had since joining the Steelers.

"We definitely do compete with each other but in a great way and in a good sense," said Gronkowski, a Woodland Hills graduate. "We are always both trying to get better on our routes and our blocking, but we try to help each other out at the same time."

Gronkowski and Hernandez pushing each other has resulted in stress for defenses that try to slow New England's top-ranked passing game.

"They both provide challenges in totally different ways," Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu said. "Hernandez is obviously more of a receiver, and Gronkowski is big, he's got great hands, and you throw the ball anywhere near him and he's able to pull it down."

Having two tight ends like that allows New England the flexibility of lining up in a run formation or spreading the field and disguising what it wants to do.

"You can have all those looks off that same personnel group because of their skill ability," Whitt said. "Are you going to put your nickel (defense) out there? Or are you going to put an extra defensive lineman out there? It makes it hard for the defensive playcaller to decide what he's going to do because of their versatility."

It isn't any easier for defenses after the ball is snapped.

"You are taking defenders that are sometimes not used to being flexed out and trying to cover a guy in space," said Arizona Cardinals coach and former Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, who played tight end for nine seasons in the NFL. "A large part of this game has become getting those matchups and having your players win the one-on-one matchups in situations."

Gronkowski and Roethlisberger have something in common:

Neither of them did anything illegal....

Embarrassing? Sure.

Illegal? No.
