Steelers RG Doug Legursky Fined For Clip Against Seahawks

by Neal Coolong on Sep 22, 2011

In yet another week of multiple fines, Steelers RG Doug Legursky was issued a $10,000 fine for a clip during Pittsburgh's 24-0 win over Seattle in Week 2.

Mark Kaboly of the Tribune-Review Tweeted the news Thursday afternoon.

Legursky hit Seahawks LB Al Woods in the back in the third quarter. The play was given a 15 yard personal foul penalty. It came after a nice pass-and-catch to RB Rashard Mendenhall, who had cut back just as Legursky was coming in to block Woods. Legursky led with his shoulder low into Woods. It appears Legursky was lining up to hit Woods on the side, but Legursky failed to change his aim in time.

It looked more like poor technique than dirty play.

Legursky is the second Steeler to receive a fine this year, and it's the second consecutive week the league has issued fines for Steelers players as well as their opponent. After Week 1, Troy Polamalu and Brandon Ayanbadejo were both fined $15,000 for horse collar tackles, and reported earlier today, DE Raheem Brock of the Seahawks was fined for a low hit on Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger.

Scott Brown of the Tribune-Review reported Legursky plans to appeal the fine.

i hope it was more poor technique because it looked like a dirty play. i always hate to see players go low on a guy and take his legs out from under him. especially an o-lineman. thats bs. if the nfl really cared about player safety they would make blocking low illegal in all instances. imo the ward rule, (his devistating block on rivers a few years ago) isnt half as dangerous as taking a guys legs out
