Question: I know if the steelers signed another teams practice squad player, he'd have to remain on our 53 man roster the rest of the season. Which likely means we'd have to release a current player. So, what other teams PS player would you like to see the steelers take ?

I was reading a thread on the 2010 NFL Draft by Dee Dub, so in HONOR of him, I will say that if I had my drouthers, I would really like us to take one
" Akwasi Owusu-Ansah " off the Dallas Cowboys Practice squad. Akwasi made their 53 man roster as a rookie in 2010. But suffered a ankle injury in week 8, and was IR the rest of that season. Well, the NEW Defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan wanted more Vet players in the secondary at the Safety position, so Akwasi was sent to the PS. Now Dee Dub, as much as ANYONE really wanted the steelers to draft this kid from Indiana PA in 2010. So that's why I wrote in Honor of Dee Dub :tt1

To me, Akwasi does two things for us, one, as a guy who can play some CB, he is also a better athletic FS then Wil Allen, who I feel is not as long term worthy as a Akwasi Owusu-Ansah is. Also, Akwasi is a kickoff and punt returner as well. He won that job for the Cowboys last year before getting hurt. So he could earn his keep here doing that, that way we don't expose Antonio Brown on special teams return play. Cause he is too valuable as a WR for us, right ?

So, even though I highly DOUBT it will happen, Akwasi would be MY choice to sub Wil Allen for. So, is there any other current PS players on other teams that you would cut a current steeler for :?:

Is this a change in the new CBA? In the previous agreement, I think a guy you pluck off another team's P.S. only had to be on your 53 man roster for 4 weeks. Perhaps that changed, and I hadn't heard of it...

And I do think AOA offers some promise. I'd take him over Will Allen, as you suggest. And while we're at it, we don't need Arnaz Battle as a 6th WR when we already have Wallace, Ward, Sanders, Brown, and Cotchery. His role on special teams could be filled with the guy on the Eagles' practice squad who shares DNA with a certain fellow who wasn't hired for his disposition. You could also replace Chris Scott with Chris DeGeare.

By the way, here is the practice squad list (as of a couple of weeks ago...I'm sure there have been some changes to a lot of teams since then).

Good job Ruthless on the list :Beer And also your thoughts. Like I said, this is all pointless in a way cause none of us here get to make these decisions. And I highly doubt the steelers sign anyone PS squad players to be placed on our 53 man roster, when they consider themselves a tested Vet team that is Super Bowl worthy. But I think youth must be served. I am not calling for the head of any of our young drafted players like K.Lewis, or anyone like him. But, Ryan Mundy is more of a Safety back-up for Troy then he is for the aging Clark. And Wil Allen, although a former starter for Tomlin in Tampa Bay is not someone that I get excited about for our future. Akwasi MIGHT very well be a answer for Clark in a year. And he does have return skills. So yeah I would like to see him here. But I won't hold my breath either.

I saw that. But he was a free agent. Not someone who was signed off a PS, that is why they could place him on their PS....If that was what you were wondering.

Here...you guys have Kraig Urbik and Keith Williams. We'll take Jonathan Scott and Jamon Meredith. One team's trash is another team's...well, still trash I guess.

It's ok. God has given me thick skin. Do what you feel you need to do.

No, actually that thread WAS Steeler related, so I wasn't going to re-post it as being Non-Steeler related. Which BTW the other two threads I did re-post, I was just having some fun with ya :P No, I thought of all the 2010 draft threads, you seemed to endorse Akwasi the most. And since I DO think that we could use not only a potential replacement in a year or two for Clark at FS, but as well as I think that Wil Allen is just not all that to keep on the roster over a young athlete like Akwasi, who CAN give us another return guy if needed.

So I was not being sarcastic Dub. I DO Honor you with this thread. And the idea of signing Akwasi off the Cowboys roster. :D

Are you asking me this? In regards to Kenny Tate? If so watch a Maryland game and you will not have to watch long to get your answer.

He's special.

I think it's hard to compare AOA with Cromartie-Smith since I haven't seen all that much of AOA since he was college.

But what I did know is that when he was in college he showed some good cover/ball skills. And he has good speed. Free safety takes an intelligent player who has incredible instincts. Dont know if he has that or not.

I think Lady GaGa plans to take it up a notch by wearing a Maryland Football uniform on her next tour.

Tate was expossed badly against both Miami and especially WVU. Ttae is a hybird player. Plays more of the free flex LB spot then he does at Safety. He's very tall, but very lean, and is brittle. Sorry Dub but I can't Imagine why you would think this guy is in anyway a replacement for Clark. He is at best 4th round talent, with no real upside over Akwasi.

Those uniforms look like they were designed by an out of work wardrobe assistant from the 70s B-file industry.

"The Bills also announced signing rookie offensive guard Keith Williams to their practice squad. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds, the Nebraska product was drafted in the sixth round by Pittsburgh in April before being released by the Steelers earlier this month.

Williams will provide Buffalo insurance at guard with starter Kraig Urbik expected to miss between two and four weeks with a knee injury."

I had mentioned bringing in DeGeare & Adrian Tracy in a thread around final cuts, I'd still recommend doing it but would lean more towards DeGeare.

Wasn't wondering anything. I said signed to their practice squad to inform people he was now on someones practice squad because he was unemplyed since the Steelers released him and wasn't listed on the Bills list above. Nice to hear you know how the system works.

I don't think the Steelers will get rid of Ryan Sunday-Mundy or Will Special-Allen to sign Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to the 53 so I would guess the Steelers will stay with Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith.

If one of the reserve safeties go down with an injury, I would love to see Akwasi Owusu-Ansah on the 53 over Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith.

I'd be interested to kick the tires on Everette Brown...he could be a good 3-4 Lb. And I'd love to bring in Tyrell Sutton, I'd swap him for Mewelde Moore in a heartbeat.
