The Steelers have signed former Pitt and West Allegheny High School standout Dorin Dickerson to their practice squad.

Dickerson, who spent last season with the Houston Texans as a wide receiver, worked out for the Steelers last Tuesday.

"Very blessed to be a part of the Steelers organization!" Dickerson wrote on his Twitter account this afternoon.

A seventh-round draft pick in 2010, Dickerson appeared in seven games for the Texans last season but did not catch any passes. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder was released during final cuts earlier this month.

Dickerson played multiple positions at Pitt before settling in at tight end. He caught caught 45 passes for 508 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior, earning All-American honors.

I much rather they would have signed Henry Hynoski as a UDFA.

Maybe this a move in response to D Johnson missing another clear assignment that leads to a devastating fumble. Maybe they will see if Dickerson can play H-back. It would be interesting having a 3 TE set with Saunders, Dickerson, and Miller. We could do some of the things the Pats do.

But can he play cover corner or blocking guard?

Oh, that's right, we have Trai Essex to do both those things.

I cant imagine Dickerson is a better blocker than Johnson.

We need a real FB. Ravens got Leach- huge addition for them. We get Johnson. Yay!

Dickerson is one of those players that needs to find the right fit. Arian's system could be that. However, I'm not pushing Johnson off the roster for him to get him to the 53 if he shows something in practice. If I'm pushing anyone off, I would push Battle off. I just don't see enough value there. His contract is now guranteed so it would more then likely take an injury to get him to the 53 or some lights out practice time.

I think league is following Bruce Arians regarding full backs.

Green bay had 3 FB last season. This season they have only one FB and 5 TE on the team.I guess FB are a rare species nowadays.

Really? Do you see Johnson run past Clay Matthews in the SB and Ngata last Sunday. Dickerson isn't really big enough for H-back, but DJ needs some motivation. That is all I was thinking.
