Who are guys with a chance (however slim) to make the 53 man roster? Who are the Bubble Boys? List anyone who isn't a near lock, but still has a shot.

My List
DL- Corbin Bryant, Skip McClendon
LB - Mario Harvey, Morty Ivy
DB - Warren, Cortez Allen, C. Butler (I think Lewis has done enough and is safe)
TE - Wesley Saunders, Gilmore, Jamie McCoy
OL - Chris Scott, Keith Williams,
WR - A. Battle
RB - J. Clay
K - Swazie Waters (outside shot as KO specialist)

I didn't list Dwyer or Chris Carter. Both have likely shown enough to make the team.

Bryant or McLendon will make it. I'm betting it is Bryant.

They will try to put both Harvey and Ivy on the PS.

Warren and Butler are odd men out at CB. Allen has too much physical ability to risk losing. Butler only makes it if they go with 9 OL.

AT TE I think they will be looking hard at the waiver wire. I don't think any of these guys make it.

I think both Scott and Williams could go to the PS to sacrifice the slot they need for 7 CBs.

I think Battle makes it for special teams.

Clay and Waters are both gone.

CBatch could be on the bubble. We've kept 2 QBs before and you know Charlie likely would stick around Pittsburgh and would come back if we called him.

I think he's a better option than Dixon personally, but Dixon wouldn't hang around Pittsburgh and wait, so if Ben went down, we'd be scrambling to get a back up for Charlie in this case.

I'd like them to cut McLendon, Gay, Moore, Battle, Gilmore & Dixon!

Those on the cusp that I hope make the roster are: Harvey, Ivy, C Allen, Saunders, K Williams, Warren & maybe Clay!

Surprised Gray got cut so soon, thought he may have had an outside chance or placed on the practice squad?

Steve McLendon may be our future NT once Casey Hampton hangs up his cleats.

He may be.

Hey, how big do you all think McLendon is? The Steelers still only list him at 280 pounds, but from the picture below, he looks to be easily 3 bills if he is indeed 6'4".

Once upon a time, I was in love with the Harvey UDFA pickup. But he's been hurt for all of training camp and I haven't seen him play in any preseason games. Unfortunately, his bubble may have burst, because you can't make the club in the tub. Perhaps next year.

Absolutely. Hopefully, he'll get to play in the final preseason game (or maybe not if we intend to stash him on the PS.

there was a time when I thought Hoke may be a surprise cut, not so much now.

:Agree He is low risk to put on PS.

I feel he's worth keeping around.

If they can find a way to keep 7 DL, I could see keeping McClendon around. But Hoke is always reliable when called upon, and if the Steelers needed somebody to start a few games at NT this year, I'd much prefer that it be Hoke.

and herein lies the Steelers' dilemma...

do they keep Hoke around for what is probably only one more year and thus risk losing their potential future NT in McLendon? or do the Steelers carry 7 DL and keep them both and try stashing DE Corbin Bryant (who has been very impressive in camp so far) on the practice squad and risk losing him?

It is a gamble no matter how you look at it. I believe if they released Hoke another team would pick him up in a heartbeat. If they get rid of the other guys or place them on the PS the Steelers may never have a chance to get them back or develope a youthful team. Maybe they can put one of the young guys on IR ? Do teams do that other than the Cheats ?

I am hoping that they don't keep Battle and (sorry to say) Hokie at the expense of the drafted DB's and some others that seem to have a future with us. This team needs to get younger. And with the new Kickoff at the 35, Battle's value as a ST is a bit less.

McLendon vs Bryant.....one is a NT on a team with 2 ancient NT's, the other is a DE on a team with 2 1st round DE's. If one of the 2 stays, it'll be McLendon. Question is- does McLendon push Hoke? It would not surprise me.

Butler vs Allen vs Warren....not sure if this is the only candidates for this fight- if Lewis makes the roster, could they simply place him at #3 & say goodbye to Gay? We'd be talking about a 3rd year vet- not a rookie like Curtis Brown. Put it this way- if they keep Lewis, what good does it do him or the team if he's #4 on the roster? He must play if kept. He'll either replace Gay or possibly McFadden (unlikely). Brown will make it. So Ike, McFadden, Lewis & Brown. Probably 2 more- Butler looks good at times. He's probably done enough to be ahead of Allen & Warren. So the last spot is down to Allen & Warren. Could Allen move to FS? Replace Will Allen? The DB's spots are up in the air still for mine.

OL- J Scott, Kemo, Pouncey, LEGURSKY!, Colon, Gilbert & Essex are the 'locks', with Chris Scott, Williams, Hills & Foster probably fighting for 1 or 2 spots- let's say 2 spots. I'd say Hills & Foster win due to experience with Williams & scott moving to the PS.

The question is how much do the Steelers like him and how worried are they that he might get snatched from the PS?

They could always IR him which protects him from being poached but also means that he can't suddenly get healthy and practice with the team.

We also have Ivy who has looked good at ILB but is doubtful to make the team. He should make it to the PS.

Something not discussed a lot, but the fact is this defense does not work well when Troy is out. And given his recent history and style of play, he will likely miss games again this season. So, who comes in as his replacement? I am wondering if we can convert one of these corner backs to play safety? I notice we are using CB blitzes more this preseason while Troy has stayed back in coverage. I don't know if this is a trend or an experiment but it seems to get the desired QB pressure.

Right now, Ryan Mundy is the primary backup to both safety positions. I'm not impressed with Will Allen (he's the defense's version of Arnaz Battle...pretty much only a special teamer...and if we decide to keep Swayze Waters and his big leg over Suisham (which I think is a distinct possibility)...we won't really need kick coverage since opponents will start at the 20 virtually every time. I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I'd keep Troy, Clark, and Mundy, plus 7 CB's, while giving guys like Warren/Butler/Lewis some practice time at safety as well as corner.

Troy ???????????? Don't you know he is over rated ? He makes no impact towards the team . Just ask Prisco
