What players - if any - would you want to bring to the team for a shot?

For me it would be one of these three RBs...Roy Helu, Evan Royster or Darren Evans. All of these guys are almost interchangeable physically (6' or so, around 215 lbs.) but I like how they run hard on the interior - which we need.

Given Dwyer's issues in camp thus far & his tenable grip on the 4th RB spot, I wouldn't have any issue with bringing one of these guys to take his spot. And I don't take this lightly as there was another recent undrafted running back that stood about 6'1", 215 lbs or so, and his name was Arian Foster. Not that these backs will have the same impact that Arian Foster has had for the Texans, but it has happened before with the Steelers...& Willie Parker turned out alright.

I'd keep an eye out for running backs, tight ends, defensive backs and offensive lineman, but I haven't followed other camps closely enough to have a sense of who might be cut and who might make sense.

Clearly a #2 TE is going to very high on the list. We have nothing behind Heath.

The Steelers play pre-season game 3 Saturday Aug 27 and finished up Thursday Sep 1. There is one game Friday Sep2 ending the pre-season.

On Tuesday Aug 30 ---320 players will be available. Then on Sat Sep3 another 900 or so will be out there.

While the Steelers seem to be overloaded everywhere already, It's possible the Steelers grab someone here.

I mean does anyone know who the #2 or #3 TE is? Or maybe a can't pass up vet is let go. There is still a week left before the season starts.

How's this for laughs. Would you resign Spaeth or even Fox if they got cut?

I think the Steelers would resign Spaeth in a heartbeat.

Saunders looked better in game two. He made one fantastic block :tt2 and totally whiffed on one :( that I saw. He looks like a sure handed receiver who will fight for yards as well.

Man! What a wild cut-down day...one day Tony Hills is talked about being a starter at RG, the next he's gone. Crezdon Butler flashes fantastic & seems to reaffirm his roster spot & then is given up on...strange. Anyway...aside from bringing back some of our players (Butler, Gray, Charlton) here's some players I think are worth taking a look at (*favored picks)...

QB: *Adam Froman, Adam Weber, Scott Tolzein
We're set here I know... but Lefty is out again (I thought Batch was the fragile one?) & carries too big a cap number, this probably Charlie's last hurrah & Dixon isn't long for the team (though he's misused) a developmental QB is needed. Froman has the tools & is a good athlete too; Weber was a record-setting QB at Minn. & reportedly was much better in camp that Tebow; Tolzein is a cold-weather QB who impressed in SD's camp to the point where his cut surprised most.

RB: Evan Royster, *Tyrell Sutton
Admittedly I am not a Mewelde Moore fan who I feel offers nothing as a runner & who's value as "safe" returner is overstated. I would swap him for Tyrell Sutton in heartbeat as the 3rd -down back. Sutton is a dual-threat in the Ryan Moat's mold, though a bit injury-prone. As for Royster, Dwyer is no sure thing & has bad hands, Royster seems like he has better vision & set of skills to develop.

TE: Will Yeatman, *Lee Smith
It's not often that TE is a position of such off-season interest with the Steelers, but it sure was this year. After losing the maligned Spaeth, the team seemed to go after every veteran FA & brought in a slew of UDFAs to see who could seize the crucial 3rd TE spot. In the end I think they made the right choice as Saunders has too much potential to pass up. The reason for looking at both Yeatman & Smith...they're supposed beasts as blockers & it was even reported that athletic Smith was even being looked at as a developmental OT & long snapper. That said, I like the idea of bringing Charlton back who needs more time to learn the TE position but seems to have good skills.

WR: Dorin Dickerson
This may not be a popular thought but the kid has got too much athleticism to not look at & let develop.

OL: *Chris DeGeare (OG), Ricky Henry (OG)
Going out on a limb but I think DeGeare should be a priority signing for the Steelers. A mauling 335lb. RG, his being cut was probably the biggest surprise after competing for the starting right guard job in camp & subbing for Steve Hutchinson on the left. Henry is another Nebraska run-blocker who should be looked at along with Keith Williams.

LB: Larry Hart, Adrian Tracy
Larry Hart is not meant to be a 4-3 DE - pass-rush specialist or not. At 6' tall & 250lbs., he needs to be in a 3-4 where his speed & non-stop motor can be best utilized. Also fitting into that category is Adrian Tracy. I saw Tracy at W&M where he was an explosive pass rusher in hybrid 3-4. But for some reason the Giants tried to make him an DE first & then a strong-side OLB basically playing him out of position not once but twice (they're doing it again with Mark Herzlich). Given the Osi situation, how they let DL like Cofield walk & other off-season gaffes, it's easy to see how they could miss their mark with this kid. Both these guys could easily challenge Foote, Morty Ivy, Chris Carter & Worilds at the least.

DB: Don Carey
Steelers really kicked the tires hard on Carey when he was coming out of Norfolk St. a couple of years ago. He got a decent amount of playing time though they played him out of position at safety. With the size & speed the team typically likes at CB I wouldn't be surprised if the team gave him a shot.

I'd love to see the Steelers give Dickerson a chance. I saw him play in HS and at Pitt, he has a ton of upside.

Patriots bring in Brian Walters to upgrade RG. That move makes me ill. The Pats OL gets better while the Steelers are forced to play a back up Center at RG.

Since I don't get to watch much college football, the names that are familiar to me are those mentioned here. This one was one. He sounded like another Kemo, maybe with a better head. Anyway I did remember the name and thought he even visitied here. He did.

From the PG: TE -- The Steelers entertained a quartet of college prospects Monday. They can bring as many as 30 to their facility to interview before the draft. The first four included Penn State linebacker Navorro Bowman, Purdue defensive lineman Michael Neal, Wake Forest offensive lineman Chris DeGeare and Kansas safety Darrell Stuckey.

Ed Bouchette

A question: I see the Steelers already signed their 8 to the PS. There is another thread on that already. I looked up DeGeare's profile on nfl.com. in 2010 he played in 8 games and started 5. You wouldn't think it but Is he not eligible for a teams Practice Squad? Somebody said if a player was in 9 games he was then not eligible.

Anyway, the Steelers did not bring back Adams or Starks and cut Hills. What would they do with him? However, if the Steelers had considered drafting him anything is possible.

Nope! Just looked at the 2010 draft. He was taken in Rd 5 #160 by Min. The Steelers took OL Chris Scott Rd 5 #151. If that was their thinking then, it probably has not changed. FWIW: I agree with you. I had cut C. Scott. But then again I don't really pay much attention to OL stuff.

You can say that again.

I wish we could have found a way to keep Butler around for another year. Seemed to show some potential back there. I think we've probably seen about what we can expect out of Willie Gay or Bryant McFadden.

I really don't understand the hate for Moore. He's a very good situational back and has come up HUGE for us on more than a few occasions. He's shifty, gets to the sticks and has solid hands. He's also not expensive.

I appreciated what Moore did in 2008 and I think the coaches like his back-up fair catching/utility abilities.

I can't think of any games where Moore had an impact the last 3 years.

I'm with Dizz...he always seems to get stuffed at the line, doesn't seem to be able to turn the corner & seems to almost always get less yardage after a catch than what seems to be there. Now the first year he was here - he was a godsend, but it's been all downhill & uninspiring from there.

Let me throw another name out there for some debate...what about Everette Brown? This is another kid meant for a 3-4 - would he be a better back-up than Worilds? :stirpot
