I always regretted that we waived him and hoped we got him back also. But now that the 49ers have also waived him, maybe there's a reason for it.

it's not good when a team like the 49ers releases you in their first round of cuts.

I agree to being disappointed last year when we cut him over others, but there truly must be a reason if he doesn't survive early cuts in SF.

The reason is that they brought in Aldon Smith with the 7th overall pick this year to play Gibson's position.

They also have Parys Haralson who has been with the team for 5 years and put up okay numbers as a starter...he's the back up now most likely.

There just wasn't any room for Gibson there.

They also cut Scott McKillop today.

I guess Worilds is "soft against the run" like the board "experts" proclaimed about another young LB learning a position change who is about to cash in on being on the verge of being a star...Timmons.

I'll take Worilds over Gibson any day of the week and obviously the Steelers and the 49ers feel the same way about Gibson's potential.

He went to the Skins

Redskins claimed OLB Thaddeus Gibson off waivers from the 49ers.
The Steelers, who drafted Gibson last year, and Bears also put in waiver claims, but the Redskins had the worst 2010 record. Gibson was Pittsburgh's fourth-round pick in 2010. The Niners claimed him off waivers early last November and Gibson appeared in the final two games, making two special teams tackles.

Sounds as though the Steelers would've liked to bring Thaddeus back.

Steelers try, unsuccessfully, to bring back Thaddeus Gibson

The Steelers picked linebacker Thaddeus Gibson in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. During his rookie season, Gibson was cut by the Steelers.

He landed with the 49ers, appearing in two games. And he was recently waived by the Niners.

Of all teams, the Steelers put in a claim for him.

PFT has confirmed that the Steelers, Bears, and Redskins made claims for Gibson. Since the Redskins had the worst 2010 record of the three teams, the Redskins secured his contract.

Given that the Steelers played in the Super Bowl, they have waiver priority over only one team the Packers.

Being a Buckeye fan I was underwhelmed when we picked up Gibson. He is a classic athlete who's skill set probably won't translate to the NFL. Yes, he is quite athletic. But, he is a LBr who tries to go around blockers, avoids contact and isn't very physical. That doesn't seem like the Steeler type of LBr.
