Former Today Show correspondent and pro football player Tiki Barber remains intent on an NFL comeback. Barber is getting in shape for the NFL season, presuming there is one, and once the lockout is lifted needs to find a team, as the Giants already have stated they will release his rights so he can move on. "I'll be somewhere where I know the people, know the staff," Barber said. "It will be a team that needs some veteran leadership or just needs a little push or needs somebody they can count on to fit a role." Barber has strong ties to coaches Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh), Raheem Morris (Tampa Bay, where his twin brother Ronde is a cornerback) and Sean Payton (New Orleans). Given that the Saints drafted Mark Ingram, figure Barber's next uniform will be Steelers black and gold or Buccaneers red and pewter.

This was brought up when he first said that he was returning and it was published that he would like to go to a team like the Steelers. I believe the Steelers came out and publicly said no thanks. Not happening.

Edit:

Here is the article

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... -interest/ (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/10/steelers-dont-share-tiki-barbers-interest/)

Tiki Barber may be interested in ending his NFL retirement and signing with the Steelers, but the Steelers donít share Barberís interest in getting a deal done.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers have no interest in Barber.

Technically, Barber remains under contract to the Giants, although the Giants have already announced that theyíll release him as soon as teams are allowed to make personnel moves.

The soon-to-be 36-year-old Barber says heíll be healthy, in shape and ready to go for the 2011 season. So far thereís been no confirmed interest from any team.

I'm fairly certain Fast Willie Parker would don the black and gold before Tiki would. I wouldn't hold my breath on either happening.

What connection does Tiki have to Tomlin? Tomlin was his twin brother Ronde's DB coach in Tampa, but he's never worked with Tiki before. Whatever. We're good with Mendenhall, Redman, Dwyer, and Batch at RB. If the team decided they wanted a veteran RB instead of 4 young guys, they would more likely re-sign Mewelde Moore than ink Tiki.

I'm thinking the Batch kid finishes Moore in Camp. And as crazy as it might sound now i think he may even have more of an impact on the team in terms of scoring than Mendenhall. Tiki,...we'll pass.

You're probably right. BA will have us running a double reverse flea flicker from the two and Moore will be wide open.

Apparently Willie Parker still has lots of love for the Steelers organization.

I don't doubt the decision to cut FWP but I have to admit I wish it could have worked out that he stayed. Just loved the guy.

There's no harm in bringing him in for a tryout - if he shows something then sign him because he's twice the player Moore is, Dwyer hasn't shown anything & you can put Batch on the PS. If Tomlinson can be a 3rd down back, then Tiki certainly could be too. Heck...sign him so he can teach Mendy how to carry the ball properly!

Barber was extremely fumble prone early in his career, then changed the way he held the ball, and was actually pretty secure with the ball late in his career after the change.
