First thing, no way does Pittsburgh let Wilkerson or Heyward go if both are there. Second, no way Arizona gives us a 3rd for our 3rd just to move up 7 spots to get a guy who will likely be there anyways. I can see SF doing that, but not Arizona sitting at 38.

can you clarify the trade with arizona? you have them with our normal pick in the 3rd after the trade.

i don't know about that.

i don't know about that.

1.31 (600) + 3.95 (120) = 720

2.38 (520) + 3.69 (245) = 765

We get better value in that deal (+45).

Using a trade chart that most of the league believes is outdated, yes we would get the better of the deal. However, when the players sign these contracts it will be under a new rookies wage scale. Making this chart obsolete.

i don't know thats why i'm asking.

you have us trading #31 for #38 and #69

why does arizona have our normal pick at #96?

maybe i'm not reading it correctly.

Which is why Arizona would never do it. Especially for a player who will probably be there at 38. So in actuality, it's not a realistic trade.

1/31 & 3/95 for 2/38 & 3/69

When Bill Belicheck has a whole night to entertain offers for pick 2/33 and the top 5 QB's are off the board well see how unrealistic it is for a team to want to get in front of that action.

The experts think that there will be 3 maybe 4 QB's taken in round 1. With Mallet dropping. Yeah maybe a team lower then AZ might trade up. But Arizona will likely want to bring in a Vet QB for their Vet team...not a untested rookie. Sure they will want to draft one, but not at the cost of dropping all the way down in round 3. You're dreaming.

I dont like it. If they are going to trade down get a better player than a guy who you will ultimately have to move to free safety. One who isnt that good.

Now had you chosen Ras-I Dowling or Rahim Moore...well then you would have something that would actually help the Steelers sooner than much later if at all.

And if not I would rather stay at 31 and get Cameron Heyward or Nate Solder. Tackles of Solder's status dont always come around at pick number 31. Be a shame to pass on him for Aaron Williams.

Using your full 7 round mock draft as a guide for who could be available when we were pick, I tried to figure out what I would have done at those points.

With your proposed trade in effect, I could really improve our secondary immensely right off the bat (with a top 2 that only a Dee Dub could love  ), adding some big uglies(and a kicker) later.

2.38 Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia
2.63 Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA
3.69 Davon House, CB, New Mexico St.
4.128 Lawrence Guy, DE, Arizona St.
5.162 Owen Marecic, FB/ILB/ST, Stanford
6.196 Joseph Barksdale, OT, LSU
7.232 Kai Forbath, K, UCLA

If I used the same draft order, but kept us where we were originally drafting (without any trades), I could come up with a draft that features big uglies early and secondary reinforcements (and a kicker) later.

1.31 Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
2.63 Kenrick Ellis, NT, Hampton
3.95 Curtis Marsh, CB, Utah St.
4.128 Greg Salas, WR, Hawaii
5.162 Richard Sherman, CB/FS, Stanford
6.196 Alex Henery, K/P, Nebraska
7.232 Bruce Miller, OLB, Central Florida

Let me first say, thank you for all of your work, posting profiles, bringing to light prospects that not many of us may have known about, as well as personal insights from Colbert and/or scouts. I really appreciate your contributions, as a reader and as a Steeler fan. I also love the trade scenario. Well done.

Having said all that, I have some serious concerns with your mock. I do not see one potential pro-bowler anywhere in your draft. It looks to me like a bunch of journeyman picks who may even end up as second stringers. I understand the need for depth but I would think at least one "splash play" type of guy would be a necessity. Also you have no tackles listed. I believe OT is one of our top top TOP priorities. In your scenario, Solder would be available at 1.31 and I believe he would have to be the pick given our current roster/needs. We lost the Super Bowl because of OL and CB. I don't see those 2 areas adequately addressed by drafting Williams and Rackley. I'm sorry I couldn't be more positive, but that's just my opinion.

p.s. - i think your player values are very accurate.

First of all thank you very much!!!!!!!!! The problem I saw (and I have done many of these mocks) is that a "splash" player will not be there at 1/31. Williams, Ellis, & Rackley are very solid players. Williams and Rackley could start as rookies. Knowing the Steelers like I do I think they would love to trade up to the 1/19 spot and get Pouncey (it certainly could happen with the Giants there), however, it will be much easier to trade back in this spot than trade up.
