2011 PlanetSteelers Board Mock Draft (Rules and Sign-Up)

Welcome to the Annual PlanetSteelers NFL Mock Draft, coming soon to a PlanetSteelers near you, starting on 4/18/10.

SIGN UP FOR A TEAM TODAY, YA BASTAGES!!!

Rules/Guidelines:

- 3 Rounds (one hour per pick in the first round, and a half hour between picks in rounds 2 and 3).

- Trades allowed. (No trading of players currently on team's rosters, though, since it is difficult to determine value of such players. Besides, with the lockout in effect, if real NFL teams cannot trade real NFL players, you folks cannot trade them either. Trades that are reasonably close according to the point values on the chart will be acceptable. See below for a link to the standard draft trade value chart).

- If you're not able to make your pick in the designated time slot, you can send a PM with your top 5 prospect list IN ORDER you want selected. You shouldn't need any more than 5 if your PM is close to your slotted time. If it isn't, go ahead and make it a top 10.

- If you miss your pick and no list has been received via PM in advance, your spot can be leapfrogged Minnesota Viking style by up to 2 other teams. After that, a pick will be made for you. You will take what you are given...and YOU WILL LIKE IT!

- The person who picks for the Steelers will be determined by lottery. Everyone who signs up for an NFL team that is not the Steelers by 4:00 p.m. EST on Friday 4-15-10 will have their name put into a hat for a random drawing to see who is Steeler G.M. in our board mock this year. You can volunteer for up to two teams between now and Friday at 4:00, and thereby receive up to 2 chances in the Steeler lottery. If still need to fill more slots this weekend, we may ask if anyone wants to add a 3rd or possibly 4th team (but that won't give you anymore chances in the Steeler G.M. lottery, though, since that will be determined on Friday). Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

- This sign-up thread will be un-stickied next week, and an official pick thread (for picks only) will be created and stickied on Monday, as well as a Planet Mock commentary thread, specially designed to make fun of the lousy picks of your board brethren.

Here, I'll start. For the last couple of seasons, I've had the Rams and Lions picking back-to-back at the top of the draft. This year, they still pick back-to-back, but now it is in the middle of round 1 instead of at the top. The marked improvement in both teams must be a direct result of my masterful mock drafting for those two squads. Playoffs for both this season, baby! Rams to win the NFC West, and the Lions get a wild card in the NFC North.

Might I suggest, for unfilled draft spots, a couple of options.


1) have whoever wants to submit their choices whenever they want to. Top vote getter by the time the pick is up is the one who is drafted. If only Ruthless submits, then he is judge and jury on selections.

2) pick like 3 mock draft sites and use their options to fill in spots. Something like...Walter's mock is the default. If his pick is not an available option, use Consensus Draft Services. If still a strike out, go to Draft Tek. Something like that.

Perhaps I could put up a poll with several possible choices to vote on during the hour when an unclaimed team is up in the draft order. Hopefully it works...I know we were having some difficulties when we tried changing up polls in the past.

Of course, an even better idea is for more of you pansies to nut up and pick a couple of teams so that we don't have any unclaimed teams!
