PITTSBURGH, March 23 (UPI) -- Federal agents searched the offices of a former Pittsburgh Steelers team doctor once linked to a human growth hormone investigation, authorities said.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Cleveland confirmed it sent agents to Dr. Richard Rydze's office in downtown Pittsburgh but would not say what authorities were searching for or whether they were targeting Rydze, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Wednesday.

Rydze is a doctor with the Pittsburgh FBI office who performs physicals for agents on a contract basis, spokeswoman Special Agent Julie Halferty said.

Mike Tobin, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District of Ohio, said authorities have not filed charges against Rydze. He declined to say why the Cleveland office is overseeing the case.

In early 2007 Rydze was questioned by investigators with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration about buying $150,000 worth of testosterone and human growth hormone, the Times Union in Albany, N.Y., reported.

The Albany County District Attorney's Office had been investigating performance-enhancing drug use, the newspaper said.

Rydze left the Steelers organization in the summer of 2007 after 22 years with the team, ESPN reported.

He also resigned from his position as an internist with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in September 2007, a UPMC spokeswoman told the Tribune-Review.
