Though he hasn't yet been released from prison, wide receiver Plaxico Burress is already leaving an impression on the NFL.
On Saturday, Burress' agent Drew Rosenhaus joined the chorus of those saying the imprisoned wide receiver looks to be in good shape and could help an NFL team.
"[Burress] is doing great! He is running & lifting weights 5 days a week," Rosenhaus tweeted after visiting Burress in jail Saturday. "He looks in terrific shape."
Burress, who will be released on June 6, has also caught the eye of former New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers teammates.
Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who has also visited Burress, said last week he'd be happy to see the 6-foot-5 receiver back on the field.
"He looks great. He is lean; he is in good shape. He's focused and he seems happy. I just can't wait for him to come out and I think he is going to have a great impact a la Michael Vick," Umenyiora said.
Giants quarterback Eli Manning has even gone so far to say that reuniting with his once favored target "could be a good thing."
Burress, 33, has not played in the league since accidentally shooting himself in the leg with an unlicensed handgun while at a night club on November 28, 2008, but hopes to return to the NFL.
"We talked at length about his future in the NFL & he.....can't wait to get back on the football field in 2011," Rosenhaus tweeted. "He is mentally & physically strong right now and is looking forward to the future!"
The Giants aren't the only team with players rooting for a Burress comeback. Hines Ward, who was teammates with Burress in Pittsburgh from 2000 to 2005, said he'd welcome a Steelers reunion.
"I know he's getting out pretty soon," Ward said during Super Bowl XLV media day. "For all I know, we'll end up getting Plax on our team. He'll be welcomed with open arms. ... [It was] an unfortunate incident, and I prayed for him a lot. I had some good years with Plax."

The Giants seems like a more logical result than in the Black & Gold, IMO.

:Agree
Plax is going to want to start and with Wallace and Hines entrenched as starters and the rapid development of Sanders and Brown Plax won't get enough playing time for his liking.

Plax/Wallace/Sanders/Ward
I'll take that as a top #4 wides. Hines is old and Sanders has a broken foot. Some insurance wouldn't hurt.

Can he play LG?
It is a numbers game, he is out. We are set at WR for years, even with Ward retiring in the future. They still will draft WR in the lower rounds for projects and for speacial team play.
Secondly, after a year of S. Holmes and Ben negativity, they are trying to stay clear of shady characters.

Tomlin and Burress are both from that Hampton Roads area of Virginia so maybe Tomlin would be willing to give the local kid a shot at some redemption.

That makes for an intriguing top 4, but I'm not sure that I think Plaxico is worth it. He was always one of my least favorite Steelers. The only year he put up monster numbers was 2003, the Tommy Maddox year.
I think the Steelers will want to make Wallace and Sanders focal points of the passing game going forward, and I'm not sure that I see Burress as the type who would accept a supporting role.
Finally, he's old. Just a year younger than Hines I think. He missed significant time in 2008, when he last played, and seems to always be a little banged up. He's had 2 years without hits, but also 2 years away from the game. I'm not sure how well he'd make it through a full season from a health standpoint.

I just hope that Sanders can come back from the foot injury and not lose anything. That injury was a terrible shame because the kid has really been showing great potential.
Although probably in the minority I'm pulling for Sweed to recover and live up to the potential he has. That would be a huge bonus for the team.

I'd definitely prefer to see Sweed deliver big time next season as opposed to having to bring in old Bullethole Burress.

I'm with you on Sweed. I'm hoping the injury and the rehab has helped Sweed work on his mental toughness. The physical skills are there; it was all in his head and thinking too much in my opinion.
We'll see, bit it would be nice.

I think a lot of us are hoping Sweed gets his career together in the Black & Gold. I just think that many of us doubt it will happen.
I genuinely hope I'm wrong.

I'm cheering for Limas Sweed as well, I can still remember how happy I was when we "stole" him in the 2nd round...
