View Full Version : Redundant Thoughts 2010 Week 16 – Panthers

1. Dragged in late and missed the majority of the first half of the game. Had to go the “Christmas Eve” worship on the eve of Christmas Eve because doing it on actual Christmas Eve is a pain … or more of a pain. I’d like to trachea-punch the person that determined that Christmas carols are more meaningful when sung while holding candles.

2. I feel sorry for the poor guy who has to try to pick which games are televised during these special times. At best it’s a total crap shoot as far as whether the matchup will be of interest to the general NFL crowd. Especially if the teams involved are not from Dallas,New York or New England.

3. Typically the board is much more mellow after a win and this effect is compouned by the impending holiday … you know, the one with the offensive name: Bruce Arians Day. Pun intended of course.

4. I was just “helping” my wife wrap Christmas gifts when what to my wandering eyes should appear but the NFL’s Top 10 Steelers of all time list. Fantastic list. Loved every minute of the show. Couldn’t manage to stay focused on the task at hand.

5. For some bizarre reason the NFL Network decided to follow-up the Steelers list with the Cowboys list. For some strange reason I was having a hard time caring. Go figure huh? Couldn’t take my eyes off the Steelers list but I wouldn’t bother walking across the street to piss on a Cowboy if they were on fire.

6. Wait, there is something I am forgetting …

7. Oh yeah, football game … and I use the term “football” loosely when referring to the Steelers opponents on Thursday night. As far as NFL teams go the Panthers are just barely.

The internet has spoken

8. I noticed that Heath Miller was involved in the game. That is a good thing. I believe that this guy is the Steelers best weapon in the playoffs. You see, the Steelers have been under-utilizing him on purpose all year. It is part of Bruce Arian’s master plan for the Stairway to Seaven.

9. Like I just mentioned and I think it bears repeating: the Panthers are not exactly the elite of the NFL. Repetition of truisms has value. Mainly because we tend to be shallow and forgetful. The fundamental truism that was highlighted Thursday was “a win is a win regardless of the opponent”. There is value in the Steelers executing and beating the teams they are supposed to beat.

10. I am having a hard time celebrating this victory. And there isn’t much joy in kicking the Panthers when they are down. The Ravens? … that’s another story:

Ravens fans forget how much they suck if you don't keep reminding them ...

11. On this Christmas morning the Steelers are 1 win away from the 2nd seed in the AFC behind only the Patriots:

This stuns me. I’ve been watching this team all year and they don’t “seem” like they have been playing like the second best team in the AFC.

12. Perspective: Welcome to the “most wonderful time of the year”. Merry Christmas. Don’t be afraid to express love because in choosing love we choose the greatest gift. I’m going to cut the list short today in order to spend a little more time with my family. I love those people.

Agreed. I even like it when the players are bummed over how poorly they played in that game.

Merry Christmas. May this day be filled with more Cowboys on fire than usual.
