View Full Version : Redundant Thoughts 2010 – Thanksgiving

11-25-2010, 12:55 PM
1. Yearly I look at the games on Thanksgiving and yearly I am given yet another opportunity to be thankful that I have football on Thanksgiving rather than complaining about the quality or watchability of the football on Thanksgiving. …

2. ….

3. Ah who am I kidding? I can’t stand it! The Lions?! REALLY? The stinking Lions every year? The NFL gods are a capricious lot are they not?! Why must we endure this every Thanksgiving? WHAT DID WE EVER DO TO THE NFL TO DESERVE THIS PUNISHMENT?

4. And then the NFL is all like: “Yeah but the late game is the COWBOYS! Everyone loves the Cowboys!

5. ...

6. But then the NFL is all like: “Ok, yeah. They are rather a sorry lot of douchebags in Dallas eh? So I’ll tell you what we’ll put the PATRIOTS on against the Lions! See, cause the Lions are barely an NFL team and who doesn’t like to see the PATRIOTS win?!”

7. NFL: “Well look, the Saints are playing the Cowboys. Their colors are almost the same as the most popular team in the whole NFL so you can pretend you are watching the Steelers!”

8. So in an attempt to … well heck I don’t have the slightest idea what they think they are doing … the NFL puts the Bengals and the Jets on the evening game … well that’s a relief. I was beginning to think I’d never get a chance to see the Jets on national television …

9. Or the Patriots, Cowboys, Giants or Colts …

10. Ok, enough of the whining! Time for the good stuff: my picks.

11. The early game brings the Patriots to Detroit for the 2010 iteration of the Lion’s Carousel of Futility©. I don’t know much about football but I think in this game the pick is obvious. I’ll take “Terry Bradshaw Narrated Pre-game Human Interest Stories” for 500.

It’s a funny name.

12. The afternoon game has the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints (did you know the Saints won the Super Bowl after Hurricane Katrina?) going to Dallas. So in this late season match-up between current Super bowl champion and former Super Bowl favorite …

I think I’ll choose a long nap after a second piece of pie.

13. And finally the evening game has the Bengals playing the Jets. I’ll take Mark Sanchez plus the points. I can just hear the execs at the NFL network arguing for the wisdom of choosing a Bngals game based on the idea that this HAS to be their year, they got TO!

14. A series of thunderstorms will lead a cold front into through Houston later today and it will begin to feel a bit more like the holidays in south Texas. Of course all my whining is generally good-natured … I will watch and be thankful because I would be foolish not to. This is a great time of the year. Football, food and family. May we all have the sense to enjoy and be thankful for what has been given to us. Happy Thanksgiving Steeler Nation.
