T.O. says Big Ben is “soft”

Posted by Mike Florio on November 23, 2010, 10:12 PM EST

In this week’s episode of The T.Ocho Show, which should be renamed for now The 2-Ocho Show, Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco discuss among other things the $25,000 fine imposed on Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour for an open-handed blow to the head that put Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the ground in the second quarter of Sunday’s game between the two teams.

“I liked it,” Owens said. “He’d probably do it again for another 25.”

Ochocinco said that Seymour “can’t be swinging on people out there on the field,” comparing the conduct to the WWE. T.O. preferred to invoke a different sport.

“A hockey player would have took that and kept on tickin’,” T.O. said. “It just shows you how soft Ben is.”

Yeah, Ben’s soft. The guy who played against the Colts with a pair of Mr. Potato Head arms, who made no attempt to tackle safety Aaron Francisco after an interception that resulted from a T.O. short-arm effort, and who made no effort to recover what appeared to be a fumble by Francisco is calling a guy who got knocked to the ground by a cheap shot “soft.”

Owens also has his facts wrong. Roethlisberger did take the blow and “kept on tickin’.” And the Steelers went into halftime with a big lead, and they weren’t outscored 42-3 the rest of the way.

My bad - I was thinking he was referring to what the score of our game should have been if Ike's pic hadn't been called back because of the phantom "full force of his body" penalty on Harrison!

The funny part is if you read the comments of the Bengals fans at the bottom of the article. Almost all were ragging on the two clowns for having the nerve to call out anybody while their team continues to suck.

Unbelievable. I dont want Marvin Lewis anywhere near our players or organization ever again. It all starts with the head coach. He continues to allow this garbage to happen.

I personally belive it is Mike Brown, his father was alegend but all he has managed to do is run the Bungals in circles. Marvin has his hands tied with all the headcases they have brought in there, but I can't disagree with not wanting him around the Steelers at all, some of that Bungal karma may rub off... :tt2

We allowed Dick LeBeau to go to Buffalo for a year after flaming out with Cincy in order to get that Bengal stench off of him before inviting him back.

Ben mum on T.O., Seymour

PITTSBURGH — Ben Roethlisberger says he’s so focused on the Steelers’ next game that he won’t waste his time commenting on Terrell Owens or Richard Seymour.

Tuesday on the “T. Ocho Show” that runs on the Versus cable network, Bengals wide receiver Terrell Owens took a verbal shot at Roethlisberger.

Owens called Roethlisberger “soft” for the way he reacted after he was sucker punched by Seymour, a Raiders defensive tackle, in Sunday’s game at Heinz Field.

“A hockey player would have took that (and) kept on ticking. That shows you how soft Ben is.”

Roethlisberger tumbled to the turf after getting hit by Seymour, but wasn’t hurt and didn’t miss any snaps the rest of the game. Seymour was ejected.

“I don’t need to comment on that,” Roethlisberger said of Owens’ comment. “I’m trying to win a championship.”

Roethlisberger also refused comment when asked about Seymour’s $25,000 suspension. Several Steelers thought Seymour should have gotten a much higher fine and a suspension.

“Once again, it’s something that happened last week,” Roethlisberger said. “You have to focus on moving forward. If you focus on those things and dwell on them, then you’re living in the past.”

Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward did comment on both Owens and Seymour.

Regarding Owens’ claim that Roethlisberger is soft, Ward shook his head in disbelief and said, “Ben’s a tough guy. We know what he brings to the table.”

Regarding the punishment Seymour received, Ward wouldn’t directly address it Wednesday. But on his radio show Tuesday night, Ward said, “If it was (New England’s) Tom Brady or (Indianapolis’) Peyton Manning who got punched, Richard Seymour would have been suspended.”

“Yeah, you heard right,” Ward said. “I said it on my show. But I won’t go into it any more. I just wanted to put my opinion on my radio show.”

Steelers guard Chris Kemoeatu was one of the Steelers who thought Seymour got off easy.

“Definitely, I’m surprised,” he said. “It was not football-related as far as guys just playing football and getting fined for something they did during a play. It happened after the play. It was a cheap shot and very personal.”

After Seymour punched Roethlisberger, Kemoeatu retaliated by punching Seymour. Kemoeatu was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness but he was not fined as of Wednesday.

Linebackers James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley, free safety Ryan Clark and guard Trai Essex had also not yet been notified if they’ve been fined for personal foul penalties against the Raiders.

Ryan Clark's response tweet (from Peter King's MMQB):

Tweet of the Week

"To T.O. calling Ben soft all I can say is "That's my teammate, that's my quarterback" As i cry and my lips quiver. Wait that was him. Lol''

--@ryanclark25, Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark, on Wednesday, in response to Terrell Owens questioning the toughness of Ben Roethlisberger for being knocked down by Richard Seymour, and referring to the time when Owens, then with Dallas, defended his quarterback, Tony Romo, emotionally from what he perceived to be attacks from the media.

It was a good tweet week for Clark, who also tweeted this after Cam Newton's remarkable performance in Auburn's 28-27 comeback win over Alabama on Friday: "I tell you what. Auburn's #2 is a grown man. You can judge him, criticize him, but you have to respect his God given ability and will to win.'' Newton wears number two.
