View Full Version : Redundant Thoughts 2010 Week 9 @ Bengals

1. I would prefer a game in which the Steelers either played well for all four quarters or a game where the Bengals played poorly for all four quarters. This “everyone gets a turn” stuff has to top. Interesting football is interesting but I, like all members of the Steeler Nation, have a heart condition for about three hours a week from September through early February (but this has only occurred about 6 times in the last 44 years, doctors are baffled).

2. Well at first I thought it was “nice” of the Bengals to spot the Steelers 10 points like that. Then it turned out to be “providential” … which is Cincinatti-esse for “stupid”.

3. Seriously, imagine the hellish scenario:
• Living in Ohio

• Living in Cincinnatti (you mean it gets worse!?)
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DSJ6k0NtoAo/Swt3sEPH0BI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/KuiInAkZzxk/s1600/carsondog-797842.jpg
He will never live this down

• Being a Bengals fan
http://img.slate.com/media/1/123125/123037/2133425/2133426/060109_SN_BengalsFanTN.jpg

• Watching your perennially horrible franchise spot the visiting Steelers 10 points.

4. WKRP reference … the commentators mentioned it. Rumor has it that there were other people on the show besides these two:

80’s hair!

5. I don’t mean to pile on the Bengals and kick them when they are down … but I just can’t help myself! I mean just look at them!
http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2008/1001/pg2_g_bengalsfan_200.jpg

6. Have you noticed that the Steelers are getting high snaps on the points-after-touchdowns and field goals?

7. Early in the game the Bengals pin the Steelers deep. Coming out of the commercial break the camera shot is of three camera men’s butts as they are laying on their stomachs in the end zone attempting to get an interesting shot. Whereas I appreciate the effort of the ESPN camera crew I question their sensibilities.

8. When your game plan includes “Legursky filling in for Pouncey” you might be in for a long night.

9. Ward coughs it up on the second bubble screen and drops a sure TD pass in the first half. What was wrong with him last night? Who was that impostor?

How many times did YOU see this commercial?

10. Van Heusen/Steve Young/Hall of Fame commercial … Steve is supposed to look emphatic. He comes off as angry.
http://cache-01.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/11/2008/12/steveyoungcup.jpg

11. After Wallace’s catch and “fumble” out of bounds one of the announcers referenced the fact that Marvin Lewis was throwing the “challenge f@g”. hehe … f@g …
http://cn1.kaboodle.com/hi/img/2/0/0/6e/e/AAAAAirgQtsAAAAAAG7mmw.jpg?v=1189831198000

12. I wonder who made the call to draft Wallace? What a find! And he even has a real haircut now.

13. Ward was clearly short on that TD. No matter. I am sure the Bengals fans will respond reasonably with an understanding that sometimes you get the calls and sometimes you don’t.

14. Skippy has been more consistent in past years. This year he has been inconsistent in field goals and inconsistent in kickoffs. But at least he isn’t Mike Nugent! Amiright?

15. I have heard numerous commentators mention that the ball travels farther (further?) in warmer temperatures. Is that actually true? Are there stats on this type of thing? Here comes the science! (http://www.livestrong.com/article/154121-why-do-heated-baseballs-go-farther/)

16. How many times can you say “special teams miscues” in a span of just over three hours? Just ask Ron Jaworski!

17. According to my brother the way Toyota delivers “peace of mind” and 34 mpgs (that a lot of those!) is by the people and the lion creature in the trunk getting out and pushing. Which also makes more room for luggage and dead mafia bosses!

18. Every time Troy Polamalu blitzes it winds up being on a run play to the other side. Weird.

19. Steve Nash commercial. Makes no sense.
[youtube:16zq0ome]6fsx3mu5Z_s[/youtube:16zq0ome]

20. Quote of the night: You just can’t play dumb football.

21. At the 2:34 mark in the 3rd quarter the Bengals have 3rd and 4. Harrison sacks Palmer and trots off the field. No show-boating. No “look at me” staring at the crowd. He just trots off the field. In direct contrast to …

22. TO burns William Gay for his first TD and proceeds to do a passable “robot” in the end zone as two teammates patiently wait for him to finish so they can congratulate him.

23. ARE TD to Wallace was setup well. They faked it early in the game. They ran it as a reverse a little later and then did the pass when Chris Crocker was out. Leave Bruce Arians Alone!
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:P6P8H0YuVQ_RnM:http://www.herecomestheboss.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/chris-crocker.jpg&t=1
This joke NEVER gets old!

24. Ocho is angry. Poor Ocho.

25. Cincinnati has a “Fifth Third Bank”? Did you guys see that? That’s like 1 2/3 Bank or 1.666667 Bank?

26. Jon Gruden is such a freaking fan-boy.

27. TP didn’t cross himself after that 35rd and 5 incompletion.

28. Boy howdy. Talk about an ugly win down the stretch. Again I notice that when a team finally stops bothering to try to run against the Steelers they begin to be effective and can move the ball.

29. The perspective from last night’s game is that the Steelers found a way to win? Or was my point from last week valid: it’s not so much what the Steelers did as it is what the Bengals could not do? Again, there is a difference between your team looking good and your team being victorious. As a sports fan we desire to see the intersection of those two areas but when awarding playoff spots the NFL does not rely on Venn diagrams do they?

I don't know if we won it or they lost it, but if Reed makes that fg it is a 10-point game and it is over. That and Harrison knocks the ball loose on the 4th down play at the end. So I say we won it.

You made some salient points about the game, sure, but I think the best thing you offered was the epic Platypus Keytar Venn Diagram pic. I've never seen that one before, but it is simply awesome.

Here's some more I noticed:

784. Matt Millen called OchoCinco "Estupido Cinco after the game.

785. William Gay was all over the place in the 1st quarter/half. He's a human high/lowlight reel. He was in on every good play as well as bad. He missed tackles, f'd up coverage, pressured the QB, blocked a punt. The 1st half was dependant on the play of Willie Gay. Weird.

786. Steelers have had the 3rd toughest schedule so far. Cleveland has had the 1st toughest. If McCoy plays above average, Cleveland might be the most dangerous team in the NFL.

787. This team keeps getting injured and keeps on chugging.

788. Steve Young mentioned before the game, the thing that makes Troy great is his speed. Says it's difficult on a QB to expect 1 speed from a safety and then see another when you play the Steelers.

789. Lawerence Timmons never stops amazing me. There was a play in the 1st half where I noticed him blitzing the QB. And then after the ball was thrown, he sprinted 5-10 yards down the field to go tackle the receiver.

790. Did anyone catch Emmanuel Sanders' real first name on the post game interview?

791. Speaking of Steve Young, I heard a clip of Mark Schlereth asking how good Joe Montana really was if you could just plug in Steve Young and still win SuperBowls.

Mike Wallace you mean....Think it was Bernard or Bernie something like that.

14,003. I didnt like Young and Millen telling Wallace how great he is and asking if he knows.

With his unmatched speed, Burnell "Burn All" Wallace is the perfect name.

Why use your middle name instead, especially since this guy already has dibs:

I see there is a site that makes t-shirts of it. A Venn diagram t-shirt is pretty dorky, but, hey, I'm a big ol' dork...what can I say.

Further is with respect to degree. He went further in his studies than any of his contemporaries.

Farther is with respect to distance. He ran farther than anyone thought he could.

Cold air is more dense. That is the science lesson for today.

Cold air also means there is less air pressure inside the ball, which means that there is more "give" when the ball is kicked, which means that a lower percentage of leg power is delivered to the ball, which means ... :P
