View Full Version : Is James Harrison a Big Softie?

I've been saying for years that I think James Harrison is a gentle a guy off the field.

He's always in pictures with little kids with as big a smile as I've ever seen.

He seems very genuine.

And his reaction of potential retirement was probably a very real reaction.

I have a feeling he was genuinely hurt by the fine.

The league talks about Troy speaking softly off the field and carrying a big stick on it.

But to me, I suspect James Harrison is the biggest Jeckyl / Hyde on the team.

Big softie at heart.

But put on the black and gold, and he changes into a beast.

Our uniforms have special powers.

Now I'm sure I believe.

Do you?

Well, ask the mother of his children...She might have a different opinion.

OK, I should have said outside of football and religion.

Maybe politics too, I dunno?

No. He isn't a softie in any way. He does like cartoons, but I imagine him eating a bowl of glass and doing hammer curls while he watches.

Flip, I just called up James and told him you called him a softie. I also gave him your home address. Then I heard the phone drop and him running away from the phone. I also heard him mumble something about beating that clown to death. Not sure what he meant. But good luck with that :D

That's actually really cool. Didn't know Cribbs and Harrison were teammates at Kent.

Yeah, the ol' college teammates were all chummy at the Pro Bowl:

As for James Harrison's mother, she is not 100% sweet all of the time. James' aggressive genes came from somewhere (the judge ordered Mrs. Harrison to undergo anger management counseling)

James Harrison's Mother Charged In Brawl
Several People Injured In Steelers-Browns Watch Party Melee
POSTED: 3:28 pm EST December 11, 2009
UPDATED: 12:00 am EST December 12, 2009

AKRON, Ohio -- Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison's mother is one of three people facing charges after a brawl broke out during a watch party for the Steelers' game against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, according to a report by WTAE Channel 4's news exchange partners at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

It is unclear what or who initiated the violence inside a VFW hall at about 10 p.m., as the heavy underdog Browns were on their way to upsetting the favored Steelers.

Harrison's mother, Mildred, was at the VFW hall at the corner of Copley and Hawkins roads, where Akron police said a large group was gathered to watch Thursday's game.

"People were coming out side doors, back doors, front doors. Our officers entered into the bar area, they observed tables tipped over, broken beer bottles, wine bottles -- food all over the place," said Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards.

Mildred Harrison, 62, was cited for misdemeanor assault and released by Akron police after the fight. She is due in court on Dec. 17.

Also charged were Shovonne Johnson-Roper, 39, of Akron, and another person, both with felonious assault.

Police say it was a large-scale fight in which people were struck with fists and beer bottles inside a VFW hall in Akron.

Four people were taken to a hospital for treatment.

James Harrison was born in Akron and played football at nearby Coventry High School and later at Kent State University.

Charge Reduced Against James Harrison's Mother
AKRON, OHIO (KDKA)
May 11, 2010 4:18 pm

A charge against the mother of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison has been reduced.

A municipal court judge in Akron, Ohio knocked Mildred Harrison's assault charge down to disorderly conduct, which is a minor misdemeanor.

The $343 fine was already paid.

Harrison was ordered to have no contact with the victims and attend anger management counseling.

She was charged in connection to a fight at a VFW hall last December.

The VFW was hosting a party in honor of the Harrison family for the Steelers-Browns game.
