Injury report: Michael Jenkins is “out” for Pittsburgh
4:01 pm September 10, 2010, by D. Orlando Ledbetter

FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons wide receiver Michael Jenkins will not play in the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was listed as “out” on the team’s injury report that is sent to the league office.

This won't impact the Falcons gameplan or effectiveness. He is a very average possession receiver.

Still, thanks for the update. I can always come here for the latest.

this may be true but Jenkins is still better than Brian Finneran who will take Jenkins' spot in the starting lineup. Finneran poses no deep threat whatsoever and will allow us to concentrate our coverage even more now on Roddy White.

Jenkins is faster than Finneran. But, Jenkins is not really a deep threat. He is a possession guy. Finneran has more reliable hands and reads zones better. This is no great loss. Weems will also play for Jenkins, and he can go deep.

Other than Roddy and Gonzo, the next best receiving option they have should be Harry Douglas, their slot guy. He spent last season on I.R. after a knee injury in camp, so many forget about him.

Two advantages. There is a QB/Reciever sync dropoff in the #2WR spot. The other advantage is depth at WR, which could be huge if Clark can get off one of his big hits.
