It seems we have all written Batch off the picture. Honestly, I don't think the "injury prone" label is real here. There have been some who are, but Batch just seems different to me.
That, and the fact that he has always produced for the team.
If Lefty or Dixon were traded/let go and Batch started the four games, we might just be better off, or at least not anywhere diminished by this move.

I agree, but at this point I think the team needs to put this to rest. It was Tomlin that more or less wrote off Batch when he brought Leftwich back and gave Batch short shrift at training camp and during the preseason generally. Whether that was due to durability issues who knows.
Now time is short and we need the team to completely coalesce behind a starting qb. Right or wrong, it looks like Charlie is the odd man out.
But really, I'd have been comfortable with him til Ben got back. He's more mobile than Byron and the experience Dixon lacks. In many ways the ideal backup is the one here all along that was simply overlooked.

I like Batch and think he is serviceable. I also think Lefty & Dixon will be. The way I look at the situation is this. Batch isn't in the long term plan or even an essential piece of the puzzle with Ben, Lefty, & Dixon in the picture. Now, is it worth the risk to retain Batch and dangle a Dwyer (With a good game 4), a Sylvester, a Butler out there for someone else? If you have to choose Batch or anyone of the guys above for the last spot...Which way do you go? I think you take your chance on Batch still being available if you need him after you release him. Maybe the Cardinals or Giants grab him after week 1. Maybe he is still there if you need him. I think you weigh in his guranteed salary with the risk of loosing a youthful promising player to keep him...It isn't appealing to hold on to him for 4 games.

Both Dixon and Lefty are light years ahead of Batch athletically. Batch has a noodle arm. No amount of football experience or smarts will make up for that. Batch would basically nullify our ability to get the ball deep to Wallace. I would almost rather Ward or ARE QB than Batch.

You act like Batch is a 75 yr old man that can't throw it past the line of scrimmage! :D
In all seriousness, I'd hate to not have Batch around, but its probably time. As for starting qb, Leftwich makes me feel a little safer for some odd reason. Dixon still seems like he's got stagefright or something going on when the lights are on and he's not throwing against 2nd/3rd string.

Batch does have a noodle arm.. but his reads are fast and he is fluid in our O. He isn't hitting Wallace 60 yards down field but he will hit him 35 yards down field, in stride and in between 2 defenders.
The guy is fragile though.... I have no idea why people are getting upset over the facts. The guy has been injured at least 2 times in the last 3 years on plays and I bet no one can point to film and say how it happened.
Troy has a 300lb guy roll up his leg and he is injury prone but somehow Batch is ironman. LOL.
I still think he is our best option to win 4 games.

Didn't Batch break his wrist 2 years ago taking a snap from the center during a pre-season game? I have always been a Batch supporter but I think it is time to cut the cord. I think we need the roster space to make room so we can see if some of these youngins can develop.

Freak injuries can happen to anyone.
Batch took one hell of a shot in the last game and popped right back up after.

Freak injuries usually happen to starters though... Charlie is a career back up and has played in about 5 total games since he has been a Steeler and he has been injured about 6 times.
That is glass. But I still think he is the best QB we have.

Batch is injury prone. There is no doubt about it. He has sustained an injury in almost every season he's been here and he's hardly played. Broken wrist, finger, collarbone, etc.
I like Charlie and if he could stay healthy, I'd think about finding a spot for him. But, unless we need to keep some of these kids. We need to go with 2 QBs and hold on to as many as possible. By the time Ben comes back, someone will be on IR.

If it weren't for Charlie being so injury prone, we would have never had to have brought Leftwich in. Charlie is one of my favorite players, however when we needed him the most he always seem to get injured. I mean how do you break your wrist (KC game) and never get touched by a defender...... I don't blame Tomlin for moving forward. You just could not depend on Charlie.

Batch really struggles with accuracy in the 20+ yard range. Safeties know this and it allows them to play more run support. Lefty keeps the safeties honest.

I was just thinking today I would love to see a sequel. The movie just feels incomplete. I want to see more of the hero. I want to see his wife finding out. Cool, dark, hero movie...one of my favorite genres.
