Well, the annual Planet Steelers FF League draft has been run and won...but by who?

Chadman couldn't make the online draft, so entrusted Yahoo with his pre-selected players & came up with (after some FA additions & subtractions) this motley crew of future FF league winners..

QB's-
Drew Brees & Matt Hasselback

RB's-
Pierre Thomas, Steve Slaton, Kevin Smith, Correll Buckholter, Brian Westbrook

WR's-
Steve Smith (Carolina), Hakeem Nicks, Santana Moss, Donnie Avery, Mike Thomas

TE's-
Jason Witten, Tony Scheffler

K-
Lawrence Tynes

Def-
Tennessee

Def Individuals-
DE's Julius Peppers & Mario Williams, LB DeMarcus Ware & DB Darren Sharper

Given that it's a 14 team competition, the strength of each squad is always going to be somewhat watered down. Chadman is a little concerned that he doesn't have the RB strength required, but in a split-carry NFL, it might be servicable enough. Very happy to have Drew Brees on board, and very happy with the Defensive players selected- possibly the wildcard for the comp as there is much greater strength in the available DEF players than OFF players.

For any FF players- try this site to see how strong your team might be...

Chadman, thanks for that link. That thing is pretty cool.

It liked my team other than my TE and K. And it thinks my rbs have potential to be awesome, but as they stand right now, might be what holds me back. I love my team:

QB: Rodgers, Henne
RB: Arian Foster, Matt Forte, Portis, Donald Brown, Bernard Scott
WR: Jennings, Crabtree, Knox, Berrian, Jacoby Jones
TE: Shockey
K: Nedney
DEF: Bengals
IDPs: Charles Woodson, Darrele Revis, Freeney, Jared Allen, Calvin Pace

No worries Shiek- Chadman came across that site about 2 years ago & uses it regularly to check the strength of his squad vs 'experts' opinion- it really helps with the final cutdown on those 'fringe' players.

Just realised Chadman's FF regular Brian Westbrook was on the FA list- added him- never let Chadman down before, even if he is just the back-up at this point, he adds the reciever stats to his running stats.

Well Shiek...you jacked 3 players I wanted just two spots before I was ready to take them. That means in my book you had a pretty good draft.

Crabtree, Donald Brown, and especially Aaron Rodgers.

As for my team...I'm pretty happy. No glaring weaknesses as far as I can tell. I'm always a sucker for boom or bust picks, usually they work out pretty well for me.

QB: Tony Romo, David Garrard
RB: Deangelo Williams, Knowshon Moreno, Reggie Bush, Laurence Maroney
WR: Steve Smith (Giants), Jeremy Maclin, Robert Meachem, Mike Williams (Bucs rookie)
TE: Zach Miller, Jermaine Gresham
K: Robbie Gould
DEF: Dallas, Arizona
DL: Justin Tuck
LB: Patrick Willis, Jon Beason
DB: Bernard Pollard, Yeremiah Bell

I was super stoked to get all those defensive players without over drafting any of them. Most were even a couple rounds underdrafted, thanks to yahoo having awful IDP rankings and managers not at the live draft getting hosed!

For anyone reading and curious, the position lineup is

QB-1
WR-2
RB-2
WR/RB flex-1
TE-1
K-1
Team Defense-1
Flex defender-1
DL-1
LB-1
DB-1
Bench-7

Chadman, awesome site thanks for posting. The analysis and detail in the breakdowns is incredible considering they do it all just by clicking the players you have drafted. That must be one badass computer program that have running to get that all figured out with bye weeks and relative matchups and what not.

Agreed D- can't remember how Chadman got onto it, but it's an invaluable tool for those players that get lumped with 3 Kickers & only 1 RB & must scour the FA's to become competitive!!

I'm doomed.....I never got around to arranging my pre draft, i think i got the 1st 50 in order and no Defense. However, I have a never say die attitude and will probably win anyway, considering the schlubs in this league. Have you seen this group? :Boobs

I have to admit I forgot about when the draft was after the date change, but I almost had a coronary when I saw who my first round choice was, and the fact I had never heard of him, Ryan Matthews. Seriously, how did Yahoo rank him higher than Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees? I feel better after entering my team on that site and finding out I'm not as bad off as I initally thought, but either way, I will continue to trash talk even after I start 0-11. :o

D Rock, I really wanted Mike Williams of TB. I think in Keeper League he is one to go after, but even this year I could see him leading that team as a WR and having a pretty good year. He's talented.

seeing as how we both grabbed players the other wanted, let's correct that situation. I'll trade you Williams for Crabtree and Rodgers. It's only fair seeing as how you took them right out from under me.

Manila Machetes:

QBs: Tom Brady and Vince Young

RBs: Adrian Peterson, CJ Spilller, Tim Hightower, Mike Bell, and Darren Sproles

WRs: Desean Jackson, Mike Wallace, Eddie Royal, Steve Breaston and Chris Chambers

TEs: Visanthe Shianco and Kevin Boss

K: Jeff Reed

Def/ST: Philadelphia

D: Brian Orakpo

DL: Robert Mathis

DB: Asante Samuel

LB: Barrett Ruud

I'm thin defensively... but my offense is going to blow up. I have versatility with players like Jackson and Sproles who'll yield KR and PR points. AP and CJ will be blowing up teams on the ground, plus you heard it here... Mike Wallace will catch 10 TDs this year. Beware of the SLANT!!!!

Here, I'm the one who took "all the Steelers" (probably their 3 best players not named Ben).

QB K.Kolb, C.Palmer
RB R.Mendenhall, J.Charles, A.Bradshaw, D.McFadden
WR R.Wayne, C.Ochostinkhole, L.Evans, K.Britt, G.Tate, J.Gaffney
TE G.Olsen
PK A.Vinatieri
D Saints
DB T.Polamalu, A.Wilson
LB L.Woodley, DJ Johnson
DL D.Dockett

Mendy, Troy, Woodley --- really, if I have to go with 3 Steelers, I'm pretty happy with them.

D Rock: Thank you brother... looking forward to the turnout of how draft day went. I have some plan B's on my roster that I'm hoping will yield plan A pointage.

I'm wondering what Demarcus Ware is going to yield you in comparison to my three headed giant of multi-faceted players: Desean Jackson, Darren Sproles and CJ Spiller (all will be padding points in the return game).

Calc... Al Toon was too lofty for me to get. Maybe next year.

the last league I played in had monster return yardage numbers. I won the league with Johnnie Lee Higgins as a starting WR.

I assure you Asian, I know how the points work in this league. I set it up, after all. Your multi-dimensional players do not scare me.

Waiting two days for trades to go through sucks. Any way we can speed the process up by posting the trade here and making sure people are cool with it, then have the commish push the trade through?

Sarah and I made a very good trade, but the stupid rosters won't be reflected until week 3. That's dumb. Anyway, if there's a chance of the request above happening, here is the trade:

She gets: Arian Foster, Clinton Portis, Jacoby Jones, Darrelle Revis

I get: Joseph Addai, Fred Jackson, Andre Johnson.

Keep in mind, she lost Ryan Grant for the year.

Well you all are in a world of hurt because:

a. I now vaulted to top waiver priority this week.
2. I already had a $hit ton of points in the first week
d. I just got the best wr in the nfl to go along with my top tandem

:stirpot

In regards to the trade, I'd say I wanted to capitalize on that huge outing Foster had while his value is high. Now that is not saying I believe he will not produce the rest of the year, but strike while the iron is hot. Sarah and I both acknowledged that he likely won't repeat last week's success, but the gamble here is what is he truly capable of? I almost didn't complete the trade because of that unknown potential. However being able to land the preseason top ranked WR in Andre Johnson, to go along with a potentially even more potent tandem in Rodgers/Jennings now that they may have a less than stellar running game was something I couldn't pass up. Not to mention I have Crabtree, Knox, Berrian and Seattle's Mike Williams. 3 of those guys had very poor week 1's but I am not worried. My rbs are going to be thin unless Addai can bounce back or Fred Jackson can wrangle carries away from Spiller. I think by season's end though, between Forte/Addai/FJackson, I'll be able to get decent points from that position.

I personally was happy to see you make that trade because I feel a threat has now shot himself in the foot and neutralized a solid advantage.

You may have awesome WRs now, but you have left yourself dangerously thin at RB. RBs get hurt more often too, meaning if one of those guys goes down you are hurtin' bad.

lol....if you're looking for analysis this in depth from me you'll be soooo disappointed.

Basically....I wanted Foster in the draft before he blew up last week, but Shiek kept taking my dudes! After losing Grant, a big blow to an already struggling team (week one or not) I was ok with taking the Foster gamble. I asked Shiek for Jones, I like him more than Knox. I had Addai in a few leagues last year and found him pretty hit or miss. I don't looooooooove Portis, but provided he stays healthy, I might be ok. I'm basically praying Foster gets a $hit ton (we say that a lot here in NZ lol) of carries and that Cribbs pays off with return yards.

If you are worried about RB depth, I'll give you Rashad Jennings for Greg Jennings right now. They are both Jennings, so you'll barely be able to tell the difference, except that the Jennings you'd get in this trade can be used as a RB, where you are weak. Makes sense, right?

OK, obviously it's been noted that Chadman makes...ample...use of the FA wire. This is because he has numerous weaknesses across his roster, with only 3 or 4 genuine Offensive players to use every week, to go with some very good D players. Not going to go over all the changes, but a few made tonight/today are-

Roscoe Parrish for ARE- slot Wr & return man- in a Chan Gailey Offense means an opprtunity for plenty of points- maybe not an amazing amount- but a sound 4th/5th option on bad match-up weeks.

Robert Meachem for Lance Moore- obvious- Meachem outranks Moore on the depth chart at NO. Meachem is now 'off waivers', so he's picked up & likely to start this week.

Javon Ringer for Louis Murphy- call it 'insurance'- like whay happened to Ryan Grant- and subsequently the valur of Brandon Jackson- what if the Titans Chris Johnson got himself hurt? Ringer is #2 on the depth chart, and is 1 injury away from being a starter on a strong running team.

See that is why I wanted the trade pushed through. Dre is on the sideline getting checked with his show off. If he's gonna get hurt, I at least want him on my team when he gets hurt. This freakin wait period trade veto $hit sucks. I'm not directing this venom at the commish or anyone in particular, but I'm just bitter.

If he is hurt significantly this will be the biggest bull$hit ever. Ruthless you are in the same boat with your Turner trade, but I've already heard his groin injury is likely minor and was held out due to the blowout in progress.

I'd say play Donovan....always a good idea to take a good QB against a weak D.

But then again you have a great QB against a rival team and he just might explode on them like when Ben put up 5 TDs on the Ravens in the first half.

Certainly a tough choice, but I'd go McNabb and take the more likely safe points.

That's true, except that your putting McNabb in. He's not a slouch himself, so the 'studs play every week' argument isn't as automatic in this case.

McNabb is throwing to Santana Moss and Chris Cooley and...and...and...Joey Galloway? The same Joey Galloway we brought in to be our 5th WR last year and he couldn't even dress over a current practice squad player Tyler Grisham? Compare that to Rodgers, who is throwing to Greg Jennings and Donald Driver and Jermichael Finley and James Jones and Jordy Nelson, etc.

I'm not putting down McNabb...he's a solid starter this week against the Rams for the majority of the folks who own him. But the only way I would start McNabb over a true fantasy stud QB like Rodgers, Brees, Peyton, etc. is if those guys were on a bye or injured.

You could play it safe with McNabb, sure. But then Rodgers may go off for something like 400 yards and 5 TD's under the MNF spotlight (remember, he lost his workhorse RB in week 1, so he may be throwing more this year than he did last year when he was the highest scorer in all of fantasy football).

Shieky...checked in our matchup and was upset that I had so few points...didn't realize that I only had one guy playing at 1:00 today...that is so weird. He should really have gotten some points for blocking that FG. Perhaps Yahoo needs to make some adjustments to their IDP scoring next year to include big plays by individual defensive players on special teams as well.

Well the trade was...

Tony Romo and Brandon Jackson

for

Carson Palmer and Darren McFadden

Romo was on a bye for me and there weren't any decent options in the scrap heap to play this week. Palmer is up against the Browns so that might be a good play, especially if he can somehow remember that he used to be a promising young QB in this league.

Getting McFadden for Jackson was what I was really after. McFadden is now my bellcow back and will be leaned on every week as long as the Raiders don't go and be the Raiders and screw everything up.

This trade isn't going to change the outcome of a season, but especially for this week it was a move I needed to make.

In my money league at work, for some reason I always seem to do the exact opposite of the Steelers. When the Steelers won the Super Bowl in 2005 and 2008, I missed the fantasy playoffs entirely. When the Steelers missed the playoffs in 2006 and 2009, I won the league championship in each of those fantasy seasons. So far this season, when the Steelers went 3-0, my fantasy team went 0-3. Then this week, the Steelers finally lose, so my fantasy team finally wins. It's downright spooky.

Yeah, thanks. Heath should really break out now that Ben is back. I was running without a backup TE up to this point, because I figured that Finley is awesome and I could hold off until his week 10 bye, then pickup someone off the scrap heap for one week. When I saw the Heath was available, though, I had to make the move. I'm certainly glad I did, since Finley is now out for 3-4 weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery. You don't need waivers to fill that empty defensive slot. From the "My Team" page you can just drag the blue square next to Remi Ayodele's name up to the open DL slot. Then hit the "Submit Changes" button. That should take care of that.

As for waivers, just click on the "Players" tab, and look to see if there are any players that you want to add to your team (there is a little green plus sign next to each players' name). Waivers are processed overnight between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning each week. People with the highest waiver priority get preference if more than one person puts a claim on the same guy (t.o. has top waiver priority, I am second, you are 8th). Come Wednesday morning, after all waivers have been processed, all players that were not claimed on waivers become free agents, and are available to be picked up by anyone at any time on a first-come first-served basis. Of course, for any waiver or FA pickups you make, you have to tell the computer which player from your current roster that you wish to drop, so that you remain compliant with our roster limits. Hope that makes some sense.

eniparadoxgma
10-11-2010, 05:55 PM
Wow. I'm an idiot. I didn't realize I already had him on the bench. DERP.

I guess I keep trying to add players that other people try to add...and I didn't know about the free agent status thing and when that was so I was never able to add another player (I still have one empty roster slot).

I think I have it now...maybe.

Thanks mang.

...I was also sitting there watching the Cowgirls game and said to myself "I thought I had that Austin guy" but didn't see him on my (playing) team. DOUBLE DERP.

Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?

If you look at the player tab now, all of the available guys have "W (Oct 13)" next to their names, meaning that they will come off waivers the morning of the 13th (Wednesday). This happens every week for everyone. When teams drop players to pick up new ones, those dropped players also go on waivers for a brief amount of time (I think it may be 2-3 days), so all of the recently dropped players will say "W (Oct 15)" or "W (Oct 16)" or whatever, while everyone else is simply a FA after that initial weekly waiver period.

And, yeah, you should probably think about starting that Austin guy (unless you want to trade him to me, of course...I sent you a trade offer involving Austin last week...I'm assuming that you haven't seen it yet...it should show up near the top of the page when you click on the "My Team" tab).

I already sent you a counter offer. I think I'm getting it down now. So, if who I tried to add through waivers doesn't come through on Wednesday night/Thursday then I should assume someone else already got them...and then on Thursday - Saturday (barring any stupid Thursday night games) I should be able to add anyone available at that point then?

I'm glad I at least just have to hope for this to be a one sided affair and not some combination of the Jags and Titans both playing well!

I'm showing a loss by a half point.

I'm typically not one to go over the scores with a fine toothed comb in the event of close losses (don't want to be a sore loser or anything), but I just happened to glance at my roster and one thing jumped out at me like a sore thumb...

Why the hell was David Akers given 2 points this week? Kickers are easy...don't have to worry about fractional scores and the like (unlike some of the convoluted scoring matrices for, say, quarterbacks)...you should be able to calculate a kicker's weekly fantasy point total in the matter of a second or two.

Let's see...the Eagles scored 31 points. Akers kicked all 4 PAT's and capped the game off with a 30 yard FG in the 4th quarter. I'm no math whiz, but that looks like it should be 7 points for Akers to me (and thereby a four-and-a-half point win for Dr. Ruthless...provided that all of the rest of the scores are indeed correct).

I call scoreboard shenanigans. Anything you can do to make a correction here, Mr. Commish D Rock?

Aren't points deducted for missed attempts? Maybe this was the case.... sore loser.

Daymn...you are right. He went 1-4 on FG attempts. I never considered that possibility because I've never played in a league that penalized for missed kicks before.

Just checked the league settings:

Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards -2
Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards -2
Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards -2
Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards -1
Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards -1
Point After Attempt Missed -2

The standard default settings were zero for all of these (which is what I was used to).

I could see a rationale for maybe giving a slight penalty for missing chip shots and extra points, but taking away points for missing 40-something, 50-something, and 60-something yard kicks seems somewhat unreasonable. But there is nothing I can do about it now...rules should never ever be changed mid-season.

I guess I'll just have to be a sore loser now, losing 4 points for a couple of 37 yards misses and another 1 point for a 47 yard miss. Ouch.

You are playing in a BIG BOY league now, with some FF brainiacs (me not being one of them). I guess next time you'll have to select a better kicker who has more accuracy. Don't give up hope, there's a brown's FF league starting up next season that you might be able to get into.

I took it easy on you guys setting the kicker points this year. Usually I invert points based on distance...

Made:

1-19: 1 pt
20-29: 2 pt
etc...
50+: 5 pts

Miss:
1-19: -5
20-29: -4
etc...
50+: -1

Kickers are players too, and they have a job to do. If they don't do it, you don't get a free pass as their owner.

To tell you the truth, it will be a miracle if I make it to the final. I'm eeking out wins. I have no bench and one of my biggest point yielders is out with a concussion this week, if not two. I'm hoping my team keeps producing, but some of my draft picks this year have been showing signs of busts as of late. (Shiancoe and Spiller)

Machetes: 89.28 with Adrian Peterson (RB) and Visanthe Shiancoe (TE) left to play Sunday Night

SFTO: 87.87 with Terrell Thomas (CB) left to play Monday Night

I think its safe to say this is another squeaker win by the slants and with the trash talking Aussie getting the beatdown today, its safe to say that once again the Machetes will be reigning supreme!

And just think, gentlemen, that up until 3 weeks ago, Kenny Britt, Carson Palmer, Darren McFadden, and Lee Evans were all on my drafted roster.

That is the problem with fantasy football --- players that start slow or get injured early just drive you nuts. If I still had those guys (and had to use them this week because of byes) I'd probably have topped 200 points. So it hurts a little less to see that you guys squandered the McFadden & Britt points, too.

And in other news: How much longer is Deangelo Williams going to sit on the Can't Cut list?? I have him in my other league and this season of his is downright pathetic.

It's hard to feel sorry for you. If you paid more detail to the finer points of modern day FF, you'd understand the importance of getting a Kicker that can, well, actually kick.

In Chadman's experience, winners are the guys that look for the latest edge to beat their opponants & losers are guys that whine about half point deductions over their Kickers....

That kicker who can't actually kick netted me 15 points this week. I stood behind my guy after a rough week, and it paid off. I'm not about to just dump a guy who has been clutch throughout his career and plays on a team with a solid offense like Akers for someone like Ryan Succop, Jay Feely, or Connor Barth on a weekly whim. Sometimes it's the moves you don't make, Mr. 84 roster changes.

Yeah, I picked up Cushing when they were moving him inside figuring that his numbers would improve there. But no one even bothers to run on Houston since their pass D sucks so bad, so he numbers as a MLB are not up to par. We know Beason plays well as a MLB already, and teams will likely get up on Carolina early, and spend a lot of time running the ball in the 2nd half, allowing Beason to rack up the tackles. At least that's the plan, anyway.

We've got a good matchup at hand. I'm down 3 with each of our defenses and I have Eagles Safety Mikell. Coming down to the wire.

Hey, who was Toe playing and what is the score? I'm now officially on an anything Yahoo boycott... bastages!!

In this epic showdown, you lost 105.18 to 77.40 at the hands of eniparadoxgma's DTF-Douchetastic-Dox.

You got zeros for Marques Colston, Matt Shaughnessy, and Shaun Phillips (all on byes) and also for Austin Collie (injured, inactive).

Eni got zeroes for not fielding a kicker, and for DB Chris Crocker (injured, inactive). He also got minus 2 point out of the Arizona defense.

On the bright side, there are no more bye week issues to worry about going forward.

Very true and I have no control over my soon to be playoff spoiler role. :)

Yup. In another of my many brilliant moves, I got a kicker because of my usual kicker's bye week and then forgot to put him on the active roster. Derp!

Any derps require a picture. It's a rule. Much like flippy's rules that women posters must present a picture of herself to prove she's not a dude pretending to be a girl.

I take it by the asterisk next to Manila Machetes that he is either a cheating bastage like the Belicheat Patriots or that he's clinched a playoff berth already. Nice job. I'm in that glut of 5-5 teams in the middle but my very high score is helping me. I'd hate to face me in the playoffs. Just warning y'all. Rodgers/Jennings/Dre can't stay mediocre all season, can they?

I don't think you have to worry about the playoffs, so this week's match-up we'll give it a playoff atmosphere.
