SAN DIEGO (AP)—The San Diego Chargers say Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson(notes) has been suspended by the NFL for the first three games of the 2010 season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Jackson pleaded guilty in February to his second drunk driving charge since 2006.

The suspension could be moot. Jackson has refused to sign his tender as a restricted free agent and could sit out the first 10 games of the season.

I'm glad there having problems out there.. they always are competitive playing in a crappy division as they do. glad they'll be missing a big weapon even if it's only for a few games.. :Clap

Why wouldn't the suspension start on game 11 if he sits?

I think it would. I think suspensions are for games that the player is eligible for.

They're reporting that he may be able to avoid it based on some stupid rule about being active for so many games or something like that. It would be much simpler if they just said, "You're suspended for 3 games whenever you start playing again."

Seems like he's not an NFL player if he's not under contract with any team. How can they suspend someone that doesn't work for them? Seems odd.
