You want to play him at RG? Do you think the Pats would trade him to us?

Yes. Get the worst C in the league in Hartwig out. Put Pouncey at C. Kemo and Mankins at guard and Trai Essex or Jonathan Scott at RT.

I'd rather trade for Marcus McNeill if we were to get one of the RFA linemen, considering that Mankins is a guard and I have never heard of Donald Penn.

What about any guys that may be available for trade that aren't RFAs who will want paid a ton. I'd imagine at least one team out there has an extra OT that they would be willing to let go for the right price. In a situation as bad as this, if no one shows they can fill the gap, then a 2nd rounder next year wouldn't be out of the question to trade away.

I'd only let go of a 1st for McNeill probably.

Nice. I didn't know McNeill is available. I would take that trade instead. He is a two time pro bowler RT. Is he an UFA?

McNeill is a RFA. It would cost a 1st & 3rd to get him- as I understand it.

I like Mankins- but

A. he plays LG- so you'd move Kemo to RG- still leaving the RT position unresolved.
B. he is going to want big money.

Fargas is / was a very good short yardage back. But I think he is a bit undersized for the role- particullarly when considering BAs non-usage of a Full Back- which I'm pretty sure Fargas had the benefit of in Oak.

yes, Mankins wants a long-term contract with lots of zeros in it...the Steelers aren't the type of team that's going to give that to him.

I have a feeling the Steelers are not quite as scared as we are. With that said, I personally think the situation is very serious and would rather grab a solid RT.

I agree that picking up a good right tackle would be a better option than picking up another guard.

(Notice, I used the term "picking up" instead of "grabbing." Not that I'm claiming I could actually pick up an NFL tackle... )

I do not agree. You are over-valuing Willie Colon. He is descent but not great. Descent can be replaced. I think if Jonathan Scott gets a legitimate chance he will be better than Colon. When Scott was at Texas he was one of the better tackles in college. He has 14 career starts in the NFL under his belt and he will be better in both run blocking and in pass protection.

The reality is that he would cost a 1st & a 3rd, plus a huge contract.

There is a reason that teams don't usually sign RFAs from other teams. You trade away the future and the present salary structure gets f'd up too.

Chance of these deals happining is 0%. Even if these guys were UFAs we wouldn't bring them in. It's not how the Steelers do business.

I'm not holding my breath on Scott. He was cut by the Lions 2 years after drafting him. Then he spent two years in Buffalo and they let him walk even though he could have been kept with a simple RFA tender. Do you know how bad the tackles were for the Bills last year? And they had no use for bringing this guy back! He couldn't beat out the likes of Demetrius Bell, Kirk Chambers, and Jamon Meredith, and only started when injuries decimated their depth chart. The guy should be entering the prime of his career but we were able to bring this guy in on a 1 year $545,000 deal. That's a red flag to me.

He's not a starter...I think it's questionable regarding whether or not he even makes the team (I think he will be battling with former Longhorn teammate Tony Hills for the last o-line roster spot). Even if he makes the team, I doubt that he is even active on gamedays since we tend to give the back-up spots to a couple of guys with positional flexibility so that we can dress more special teamers.

I dont think those teams in Detroit and Buffalo are comparable to the talent level on the Steelers. If you are surrounded by garbage then you probably arent going to look all that great yourself. I have seen many players who struggled early on become better players over time. Players who got better and found a better fit for their style of play.

Or you could follow the logic of how couldn't someone so talented shine amongst really lousy players on some lousy teams. Just sayin'
