I'm curious to hear what you guys or how you guys feel about our O-linemen and their individual talents/performances.

From 1 to 10 rate each player at their position.

Starks 7

Kemo 7

Hartwig 6

Essex 6

Colon 6

My opinion will probably change after I hear from some of you that are more insightful about football than me.

I really think that once some of the loose ends are tied up it's only going to improve the play of the mass across the board. Plug pouncey in at right guard and I believe the line plays much, much better. Starks and Colon are good book ends, Colon has a mean streak as does Kemo. Max is a mass of a man that is only improving. Pouncey is the missing piece. He'll eventually bump over to center and we'll plug in whomever at the RG spot. Ciron Black maybe if he pans out. Hell maybe even foster. I can't really give a rating until we can see the finished product but I believe our o-line is going to be formidable and that Mendenhall is going to be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Ciron Black never signed with us.

Funny, with all the ranting, nobody has yet voted any of our linemen below 5.5 (the average rating).

Statistically per Pro Football Focus, I'd say the following:

Starks 7

Kemo 5

Hartwig 2

Essex 2

Colon 8

Hartwig and Essex ranked last in the NFL at their respective positions.

I'm guessing that on a scale of 1 to 10, 5 would be average?

Starks 6.5
Kemo 4
Hartwig 2
Essex 2
Colon 6.5

Let's see...if we consider Anthony Munoz to be a 10, Jamain Stephens to be a 1, and someone like, say, Jeff Backus to be a 5, I'd go with the following for our guys

Starks 7
Kemoeatu 6
Hartwig 4
Essex 3
Colon 7

I would give Essex a 5 as a back-up utility lineman that he should be, but he is far from an ideal option as a starter.

The average of the numbers 1 through 10 is 5.5

The average of the numbers 0 through 10 is 5

With someone to take Hartwigs and Essex place, ( that are better ) our o-line would take a giant step forward. I believe a good center makes the guards that much better and so on.

Thats why I voted the way I did...predicting what our grades (and starting lineup) would be in the upcoming season rather than grading last year's OL. Yes, my grade for Urbik takes the stance that he is still on track as a 2nd year player and takes into account the positive influences of Pouncey and Kugs.

To me, the draft was telling in that they were looking more for OLBs than DBs or the RG position. I think it means they still have some faith in their recent draftees compared to Bailey and Frazier who are older and already maxxed out on their potential.

Well I would say that Hartwig and Essex would grade out as the lowest rated, last season. The reason why I would tend to rate Hartwig higher than Essex is that Hartwig is veteran center who has started a number of years, whereas Essex just "won" that RG position last year, mostly by default. I didn't think he did well. I don't think he has the movement ability of an ideal guard. I also think he is overweight.

Hartwig has had some other seasons where he played decent. I thought he looked pretty good in 2008.

If Pouncey comes into the RG position, which I think he should. I think the OL would be upgraded even if Hartwig is the center.

Didn't we have a guy named Campizzi or something like that under development ? Also, is Stapelton no longer on the team ?

When these guys are not good enough, what do you think the biggest problem is ?

Jason Capizzi is currently on the Browns' roster (he played for the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL last season). People liked him because he was a local boy (attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania) and was huge (6' 9").

We did not bring Darnell Stapleton back this year after spending last year on injured reserve. No one has picked him up yet, so he remains an unrestricted free agent at this time.
