Welcome to the Annual PlanetSteelers NFL Mock Draft, coming soon to a PlanetSteelers near you, starting on 4/12/10.

http://blog.1429design.com/wp-content/nfl-draft.jpg

SIGN UP FOR A TEAM TODAY, YA BASTAGES!!!

Rules/Guidelines:

- 3 Rounds (one hour per pick in the first round, and a half hour between picks in rounds 2 and 3).

- Trades allowed. (No trading of players currently on team's rosters, though, since it is difficult to determine value of such players. Trades that are reasonably close according to the point values on the chart will be acceptable. See below for a link to the standard draft trade value chart).

- If you're not able to make your pick in the designated time slot, you can send a PM with your top 5 prospect list IN ORDER you want selected (to WoodleyOfTroy, pfelix73, or myself). You shouldn't need any more than 5 if your PM is close to your slotted time. If it isn't, go ahead and make it a top 10.

- If you miss your pick and no list has been received via PM in advance, your spot can be leapfrogged Minnesota Viking style by up to 2 other teams. After that, a pick will be made for you (WoodleyOfTroy, pfelix73, and I will confer via PM and decide who you get in this case). You will take what you are given...and like it.

- The person who picks for the Steelers will be determined by lottery. Everyone who signs up for an NFL team that is not the Steelers by 4:00 p.m. EST on Friday 4-9-10 will have their name put into a hat for a random drawing to see who is Steeler G.M. in our board mock this year. You can volunteer for up to two teams between now and Friday at 4:00, and thereby receive up to 2 chances in the Steeler lottery. If still need to fill more slots this weekend, we may ask if anyone wants to add a 3rd or possibly 4th team (but that won't give you anymore chances in the Steeler G.M. lottery, though, since that will be determined on Friday). Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

- This sign-up thread will be un-stickied next week, and an official pick thread (for picks only) will be created and stickied on Monday, as well as a Planet Mock commentary thread, specially designed to make fun of the lousy picks of your board brethren.

I wouldn't mind people keeping some of the teams they've had the last 2 years. For example, you and the Rams. :)

I'll take Seattle and Tennessee.

Give me any two of the following.

Detroit
Seattle
San Francisco
Tennessee
Green Bay
Arizona

Last year I was picking for both the Lions and Rams which were #1 and #2. This year, those two teams are picking #2 and #1. Guess I'm not a very good virtual G.M. if they both teams are drafting this early again. D'Oh! You picked for New Orleans (among others). They did a little better. :P

I guess I'll wait and see if any other folks really want any of the team on your list of possibilities, and then give you whoever is left from those six. I was also going to just grab a few leftovers for myself once the overall list has been picked over a bit. But I could take the sorry old Rams again, I suppose, if no one else wants them.

Sounds like a good idea to do a lottery for the Black & Gold. (And no not the freaking Saints) The original Black & Gold with the 6 trophies not just the lonely 1.

Make sure you include me in that lottery, please.

Why not 'lucky dip' everyone? Just give out random teams to people!

For what it's worth, put Chadman down for a team, any team- doesn't matter.

But just one team- too hard to do work/babysitting/draft crunching on a wacky time zone delay.... :D

Well hopefully people are looking at the draft times to see which would be the best fit for them.

Yeah, Chadman, since you are sleeping when we are working and you are working when we are sleeping, which time period is better for you...closer to 9:00 a.m. EST or closer to 5:00 p.m. EST? That way, I could take a peek to see if there happens to be any team that has draft picks going off when you are awake before just assigning a team to you randomly.

Cool. You want my Rams then? They have 3 picks, and all of them are at 9:00 a.m. I know WoT specifically mentioned me keeping the Rams again, but I obviously have not been doing a good job as their G.M. if they are picking 1st overall. They could probably use a change of scenery. I can keep the Lions, Dolphins, or Cowboys, all of which I also had last year.

Go ahead- Chadman can play the Rams if you like..

because it's six hours earlier in Hawaii than it is in Pittsburgh, i would prefer my team(s) to select as late as possible.

Okay, then...if Chadman gets the worst team and picks first overall, do you want the two Super Bowl teams picking last then? Colts and Saints pick late every time (3:00-4:59 p.m. EST on 4/15/10, 4:00-4:59 p.m. EST on 4/19/10, and 3:30-4:29 p.m. EST on 4/21/10). It looks like all of those picks would between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 10:59 a.m. your time, so that should work, eh?

SIGN UP FOR A TEAM OR TWO IN OUR BOARD MOCK DRAFT!

Six hours from now, I am going to put names in a hat to find out who gets to be G.M. of the Steelers. If you do not sign up for another team before 4:00 p.m. EST today, you won't have a chance in the Steeler G.M. lottery!

Right now, only 7 teams have been claimed. I'll take 2 more this afternoon, bringing the total to 9 teams. That means JOM112 has a 1 in 9 chance of being the Steeler G.M. in our Board Mock Draft. You can't let a Bengal fan decide the fate of our Steelers! Sign up now, if only to lessen Jom's chances of picking for the Steelers.

or better yet, i may just stay up all night and go on an all-night drinking binge and as a result end up drafting Tim Tebow...

BeeTeeDubs, just a head's up for you Ruthless...

I didn't even realize this was at the top of the page and stickied. I have been thinking about this for a couple days but I just skip over the stickies and look at the most recent threads unless I'm specifically looking for something there.

Perhaps others do as well, and that is why participation is so low.

Or they just preferred the days when this event was run by yours truly and they are staying away for fear you can't compete with the flawless execution I brought for so many years. :moon

Welcome to the party, D Rock and Akron Steel. Perhaps I will try to unsticky it for the time being, just to see if that drums up interest from any others who may not have noticed it up there. I hope some of us don't have to start adding 3rd and 4th teams tomorrow...

Buffalo
Denver
New York Giants
Atlanta
Houston

Green Bay
Baltimore
Arizona

So....it's 9.09 on Monday the 12th, so it's time for the Rams to select...

No surprises here- with the #1 pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the St Louis Rams are proud to announce the selection of...

SAM BRADFORD- QB FROM OKLAHOMA
6'4" 236LBS

http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-falcons-blog/files/2010/02/sam-bradford.jpg

When you are a poor team, with no real prospects at QB for the near future, you simply must pick a signal caller. Bradford is the best in this draft class, and will be asked to lead this franchise for the forseeable future.

Accuracy: One of the more deadly accurate passers in recent memory whether throwing short, intermediate or deep. Places throws in tight spaces when facing zones or splitting two defenders down the seam. Puts the ball on his man's numbers so he can make a play after the catch, whether the receiver is standing still or on the move. Anticipates receivers' routes very well, and doesn't have to wait until they make their break or get open. Accurate on fades into the end zone or behind defenses, although a bit inconsistent in trajectory on those throws.

Arm Strength: Tall, lanky player who doesn't own a cannon but has more than enough arm strength to be successful in the NFL. Able to fit the ball into tight quarters, especially in the middle of the field. Uses anticipation and accuracy to connect on deep outs; NFL corners may jump those throws. Will stretch the field vertically when needed.

Setup/Release: Decisive and quick with his release. Tight spiral on most every throw. Generally quiet feet, patient and poised, but may have gotten more gun-shy with an inexperienced offensive line if not injured in 2009. Willing to stand in and deliver against pressure before the injury. Throws from three-quarter slot at times, which negates his height advantage. Works out of the shotgun often but is solid with his footwork and balanced in drops. Good ball fake when in play-action, causes peeking corners to bite using a strong pump fake.

Reading Defenses: Able to go through progressions or looks off safety when in the pocket, but often hit the primary read or quick screen in Oklahoma's spread offense. Understands hot reads and where defense is vulnerable, but his lack of feel for backside pressure and missing late blitzers cost him dearly last season. Trusts his arm and receivers too much in tight spaces, and at times won't recognize dropping linebackers and late-moving safeties. Comfortable leading his team in tight situations and has adequate clock awareness, but should improve with more snaps. Coaches called plays for Bradford.

On the Move: Maintains square shoulders and places the ball on target whether throwing left or right. Keeps his wits about him (and eyes down the field) if pressure takes away his rollout, resets and delivers on time. Nimble feet in the pocket; able to create room for himself to deliver the ball. Drifts toward the line of scrimmage when rolling out to his left, allowing defenders to reach him more easily. Not a scrambler or very elusive as a runner in space, but is mobile enough to pick up first downs on rollouts if defense lays off.

Intangibles: Intelligent, high-character, well-respected player on and off the field. Quiet leader by example who doesn't panic but needs to vocally hold teammates more accountable. Lack of bulk and durability are major questions after missing of last season with a shoulder injury.

NFL Comparison: Eli Manning, Giants

But we should probably make a seperate thread for the picks.

Sorry, I got to bow out of this. I'm done dealing with the Steelers this offseason, after the latest front office follie.

On to Penguins playoff Hockey.

Sorry guys, I can't participate in anything draft related.

That's pretty lame. They traded a big mouth WR with one year left on his deal who they weren't going to resign anyways, and that just shattered your world.

Frankly I'm glad he's gone and wouldn't have cared if they outright cut him.

Nut up and finish what you started, WoT.

Cool, Tomlinator. Welcome aboard. You are now the proud owner of the Houston Texans.

Anyone else interested in a team (or 2 or 3 or 4)? We still have the Tampa Bay Bucs available this morning (you could looking like a genius picking Ndamakong Suh or Gerald McCoy), plus the Washington Redskins (they have already traded away their 2nd and 3rd round picks, so you would only have to make a single pick during the noon hour today, and would have no other responsibilities beyond that), and also the Oakland Raiders (how difficult is it to pick the guy with the fastest 40 time for undead Al?).

If no one wants these teams today, I will take them (but I'd rather have perspective from various posters instead if possible). Hopefully, WoodleyOfTroy gets over the Santonio trade by this afternoon, or else the Seahawks will be available as well. Then, of course, there are multiple teams still available tomorrow. Where my draftniks at?

STEP IT UP LADIES!

SIGN UP FOR A D@MN TEAM!

IT'S NOT TOO LATE!

where and how do we announce trades?

If you are suggesting trades (or simply stating to everyone that one of your teams is looking for a partner to move up or down), do that in the Commentary Thread (or via PM).

If two of you have agreed to a trade, you can announce it on the Official Pick Thread (list which picks each team is giving up as well as the point value for each from the trade chart so that we can see that each team is getting similar value in the trade).

Looks like tomorrow morning there is no one picking for the first four teams:

(9:00-9:59 a.m.) Baltimore (9-7)
(10:00-10:59 a.m.) Arizona (10-6)
(11:00-11:59 a.m.) Dallas (11-5)
(12:00-12:59 p.m.) San Diego (13-3)

I wouldn't mind taking Baltimore and AZ...

Awesome guys.

HISteel's got the Cowboys and D Rock's got the Chargers (beat pfelix to the punch by a mere 5 minutes there).

The only teams that are still open are Chicago and Carolina, since neither had a first round pick, so they were somewhat forgotten. The Panthers have a 2nd and a 3rd, and the Bears have only a 3rd.

Of course, if anyone else wants any other teams at this point (now that the Ben and Tone stuff is settling down...Monday was a bad choice of days to start this, eh?), please feel free to take over any of the 11 teams that I now own in the top half of the draft (now that I inherited WoodleyOfTroy's teams since he has apparently traded all of Seattle and Tennessee's picks on day one and two of the draft for 5th round picks! )

just waiting for the ok from RB, i already have the Cowgirls' selection decided...

i hate the idea of Jared Odrick going to the Ravens, but that was a great pick you made for them.

as for Mt. Cody, i think he will surprise a lot of people in the NFL with his ability to stuff the run, as long as he can control his weight of course.

They are both still available. You can have them both if you'd like, since they only have 3 picks between them anyway (a 2nd for Carolina and a 3rd for each), and you were willing to take on either San Diego's 3 picks or Dallas' 3 picks. Deal?

And that would finish us off, filling up all open slots, unless anybody wants to adopt any of my 11 teams that I inherited in the first half of each round while everyone else was talking about Ben and Tone on Monday and Tuesday.

I'm really hoping that Odrick doesn't fall to the Ravens either. I don't think there is anyway Ozzie will take a TE or CB with Odrick still on the board. He knows they need the big guys up front to make things easier for old Ray Ray.

I'm also surprised that no one is mocking Mt. Cody for the Cardinals. I think that's an ideal fit...

Thanks for filling up all of the slots, gentlemen, and for making your picks on time today (actually ahead of time, which is perfectly fine with me). I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have to make any picks today (and we are already nearly halfway through tomorrow's picks)...I was expecting someone to forget their slot, but everyone stepped up. Now that the dust has settled on Ben and Tone, we can re-focus on the draft, with the real thing coming next week.
