Apparently, the Steelers have been interested in Snead since before Ben's issues began.

He was good when he had Michael Oher to protect his "Blind Side" and had our boy Mike Wallace to throw to two seasons ago (people were saying potential first round prospect). But last year, I think the only weapon that Ole Miss had was Dexter McCluster, an undersized RB.

It seems like the Steelers are looking for a late round developmental QB. They've looked at Snead and also Sheehan.

With all the comp picks, it makes sense to take a chance on a guy late to see if he can develop into a reliable backup.

I would be OK with either of them. I'm still not sold that Dixon could take the pounding of an entire NFL season if he had to step in long term. He is athletic but slight in build. Not too many of those QBs survive long in the NFL.

As I recall Dan Marino didn't exactly have a stellar year his senior season ... thanks Foge :HeadBanger but that doesn't always mean it's the QBs fault.

if only he would have had a good stellar year than maybe he would have had many good stiller years.

I think it was the drug rumors more than anything, which lead us to Senor Sack over Danny Boy.

Yea, I was not around yet for the draft of 83, but from what I heard those dang drug rumors were one of the keys of us not taking him...but if we had him than winning would probably get old and it would not be fun because there would be nothing to complain about..no neil, kordell, where is the fun in that

Stinking is a compliment. Look at his stats in the bowl game... I think he had 4 int's.

I remember watching him in one game last year, it was a thursday night game and he was awful, not to mention he did not look that big, I dont know his ht and weight but he looked under 5'10.....(he is probably like 6'5 and I will be laughed at)

Snead was terrible last season. I'm not sure he is the type of developmental QB, I'd be looking at.

He's listed at 6'3" and in the neighborhood of 220 lbs.

He had 26 TD's and 13 INT's when our Mike Wallace was his go-to guy in 2008.

Last year, though, after Wallace and Oher moved on to the NFL, he had 20 TD's and 17 INT's (but then threw another 3 INT's in the Cotton Bowl, a game Ole Miss did win over Oklahoma St. 21-7, behind Dexter McCluster's 182 rushing yards and 2 TD's. Snead was 13-23 for 168 yards in that game).

I'd take him as our #3 qb. he's got all the tools to be a good qb.

More on the level of interest the Steelers have in Snead

THURSDAY, MARCH 25

9:20 a.m.: On an earlier date in this blog, I noted how much better I thought Ole Miss QB Jevan Snead looked in his bowl game in spite of his scary numbers. Well, apparently the Steelers hare interest in the strong-armed QB as well. Two days after Ole Miss's Pro Day, TFY Draft Insider reports that the Steelers "showed heavy interest in the quarterback before the recent incident involving Ben Roethlisberger, and it could grow stronger" because of Snead's impressive workout.
Meanwhile, another mid-round quarterback, Dan LeFevour of Central Michigan, reportedly had trouble throwing deep, which is no surprise to anyone who watched him this past season.

* The Steelers attended the North Carolina State Pro Day and watched DE/OLB prospect Willie Young run a 4.91 40. If you watched Pitt run successfully at Young during the game at Raleigh last season, you're sure this poor 40 time will knock him out of Steelers' consideration.

* If you think the Steelers should be looking for a kickoff specialist, you're probably hoping the Steelers were at the North Texas Pro Day where the diminutive Tobe Nwigwe converted 3 of 4 60-yard kicks with a slight breeze.
