He is from Murrieta, CA even though the graphic said GA. He played in the worship band at the church I used to be at.

Congrats to your Californian/Georgian friend! Was he featured on any of their tryout shows so far? (sorry, I can't access the video you posted here at work...I'll check it out later, though!)

Yeah, it's easy when you live half way across the country.

Cool. Watched the video. I'll have to tell the wife to root for the guy with the dreads that looks older than 18.

I had to check this guy out...mainly because I'm a closet American Idol fan (please don't laugh at me I'm sensitive about it...lol). I think Samuel has an above average voice (when compared to the others that made it to California). He has a look that I think will help him out...that dread lock rocker bad boy thing will take him far with the teen girl voters. I haven't seen him on Idol yet...must have missed that episode but I checked out his you tube stuff. I don't think he has the it factor but could slip into the top 10 if he chooses good songs for his voice. I really liked his voice on this song.

Edit: Just listened to pocket change...he sounds very strained in his higher register. Sounded like he was about to fall apart which is uncomfortable for not only the singer but the listener.

But, I think he recognized this and changed it for his live which sounded much better in a lower register. Couple pitch issues but much improved.

Cool post!
He not only has the look, but he is an honestly sensitive guy. Girls go crazy for him.
I have only heard him sing during worship at church but he is pretty good in my book. My bet is that his look got him the part, and he can sing too.
Thanks for the support!

I just think it's cool you know someone who made it to California. I love the show...my wife an I have watched every season except for one. He does seem like a geniunely nice guy. His voice is certainly good. I think his voice is as good as the other guy with the dreads a couple seasons ago and he made it to the top 10.

I heard he is gone. Anyone know for sure?
BTW, I heard that a local Fort Collins girl is making quite the splash there this season, too. Don't know her name though.

I have that episode dvr'd and I will watch it tomorrow. But, I checked the cut list and his name wasn't on it. The tell for me was the lack of face time he was getting. Idol concentrates on the people that are early favorites. I knew that didn't bode well for him. Good voice...but probably not ready. He is young though...he really could amp his stock next season by hiring a vocal coach.
