PITTSBURGH — At long last, Troy Polamalu returned to practice. However, that doesn’t mean he’ll play Sunday.

Polamalu, the Steelers’ star strong safety, worked out on a limited basis Wednesday. But it’s obvious his sprained knee is not completely healed. He sure didn’t look like he’s ready to play.

When asked if there’s any chance he’ll play when the Steelers close out the regular season against the Dolphins, Polamalu couldn’t say.

“I don’t know,” he said. “It depends on how it feels (later in the week). It’s still in the healing process. Hopefully, it will get better in the next few days.

“It is frustrating,” Polamalu added. “(But) I think this is honestly what they expected at the original diagnosis from the second injury (Nov. 15 against Cincinnati).”

Polamalu has missed the last six games with a sprained knee ligament. And it’s questionable at best that he’ll suit up against Miami.

Polamalu said that he’s hoping that the Steelers will win Sunday and somehow secure a wild-card playoff berth. If that happens, he figures that he could be ready for the playoffs.

“That,” he said, “is the best case scenario.”
