According to Big Ed Douchette, the Steelers have brought in some people to try out for ST. He said we shouldn't be surprized to see one, maybe two, cuts by the end of this week.

Thoughts?

Fine with me. These guys need to be held accountable. Guys who were special teams demons last year like Patrick Bailey have been virtually invisible this season. If we bring in a hungry guy who is willing to do everything possible to get to the return man in kick coverage, how could that be a bad thing? I doubt that it could get any worse in that regard.

Douchey mentioned Bailey by name. Don't be surprized if he is sent packing. The only thing that I regret is that we don't have more time to replace more players on ST than just two.

Our ST's seem very slow to get down the field on KOs. Rarely do we meet the ball carrier on his EZ side of the 20. Also, we have alot of missed tackles. Maybe MT should make Ligashesky suit up and cover kicks until things get fixed.

Seeing this has been a major problem for 2 out of the last 3 years, it might be time to:

1. Hire a new ST coach

2. Replace one of the inept tackling dummies with a kickoff specialist who can kick everything out of the endzone.

I think at this point in the season we need to look at veteran ST guys who could help. We have enough young bodies out there now we need some experience.

I think Bailey has disappeared on STs and I really don't like Ratliff's effort on ST lately. SO if they go 2...I'm thinking a DB & LB. There is someone out there who has very good special teams skills and could compete for various roles on the unit. He has never become anything at CB but is still an athlete. If the Steelers are confident that either Lewis or Burnett could step in to the nickel & dime back with any injury...Perhaps Ratliff is expendable. His contract is guranteed but he is a liabilty on ST. The guy I'm talking about is...Ahmad Carroll. I hope he is one of the guys the Steelers are working out. His athleticism on ST could help. If they want to go young...Mike Mickens was released from the Bucs. A vet ST LB...Rocky Boiman.

Saw the other post. Nice fit.

Good calls JPN! Mr Colbert has some competition.

Why has the team waited so LONG to address ST's, when they've been a glaring problem all season?

Could it be a little post Super Bowl COMPLACENCY?

You wanted them to make a move and they made a move. Aren't you capable of celebrating that instead of lamenting why they did not make such a move earlier?

And it wasn't like they did absolutely nothing up to this point anyway. You might have noticed that they made a special teams move last week, cutting Arnold Harrison and promoting Donovan Woods.

Also, coming out of the bye, the team decided to start dressing Keenan Lewis and Limas Sweed on a consistent basis because of their contributions on special teams (neither was activated to play defense or offense except in case of emergency).

I'll be happy when there's a stop to the hemmoraging.

Yeah. That really was a tremendous move.

Yawn. Again, not much.

Hopefully, Tomlin and Co. are finally ready to do what it takes to fix STs. I hear there may be several more starters placed on STs, a promising sign. Maybe they've
realized that there's almost no more margin for ERROR in this season, and you can't expect to win games when you give up a kick return for a TD every week.

I'm not a roster guru but I think I have seen a few teams who have a place kicker and a kick off specialist.

I see Logan in the back of the endzone catching kickoffs and I see Reed kicking off to the 10 or the 15. WTF!!!

and I agree with BradshawHD.. what the hell took them so long to see what we all were watching. I know coaches think they can make the fix all the time but geezuz...

You know it's bad when you score a TD and the fans don't really celebrate until we tackle the kick returner..
