And just as the Chiefs finally have seen a problem player land with a new team, another promising young player has become a major problem.

Receiver Dwayne Bowe has been suspended four games for violating the league's policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances.

The team announced the move earlier in the hour. The suspension begins immediately.

The development means that Bowe has exhausted all internal appeals, or opted not to pursue them.

The specific substance for which he tested positive isn't known, and it's possible that the violation occurred in 2008 or earlier. It's also possible that Bowe didn't test positive; some players have been suspended based on evidence of possession of banned substances.

He'll miss games against the Steelers, Chargers, Broncos, and Bills. He'll then return for the final three games of the year, against the Browns, Bengals, and Broncos.

Apparently he was trying to lose weight in training camp and took a diuretic.

Their best receiver gets suspended right before their game against us, and then comes back just in time to face 2 division rivals? That sounds like good news to me.

Yeah but when he comes back he'll probably be 15 pounds heavier...

But still better than the likes of Bobby Wade, Mark Bradley, and Terrence Copper.

Do you think that the team has known about this for some time now (since the article mentions that he "exhausted all internal appeals, or opted not to pursue them"), convincing them that should claim Chambers off waivers a few weeks ago, knowing that they were on the cusp of losing Bowe?

Maybe, but I think they would have claimed Chambers regardless. For the reasons you listed above (Wade, Bradley and Copper)...

The Chiefs had an ugly group of WRs with Bowe. Without him -- ugh.

The Bengals could use him with Chris Henry hurt.

Sorry to see that happen to him. He is one of my favorite Tiger players of all time. Was hoping that we would have drafted him in 2007. However, we had needs at linebacker and took Lawrence Timmons instead.

He really does have an amazing story. Hope he recovers from this and continues his career in the NFL.
