The Pittsburgh Steelers informed linebacker Arnold Harrison Monday that he will be released on Tuesday to make room for linebacker Donovan Woods, according to a source.

Harrison has been with the Steelers for four seasons and has been one of the team's better special teams players. He's played 28 games over the past three years, including two starts. The 6-3, 241-pound linebacker was undrafted in 2005.

Woods is currently on the Steelers' practice squad.

If he's been one of the better Specail teams players (the exact wording of the article) then why are they releasing him to replace him with a guy who's been on the PS?

I guess they figure ST can't get any worse, so why not give a guy you might be able to groom some PT.

i dont like the move, harrison is decent and he was not the one that really s#it the bed, frazier looked bad on the return, did not really notice harrison....i dont think our special teams are that much better now since we have woods........

and logan, i know he got held up a bit, but that speed that everyone loved was pretty far behind and could never close in on scott on that return

I thought Snelly was a good Special team guy also and still wonder why are we keeping Ratcliff around.

Maybe not noticing Harrison on the return was the problem.

I agree though, I also don't like the move.

With what I remember from last year, Woods is a good ST player. The coaches must have seen something from A. Harrison on film that they didn't like.

I like the move. Rather than doing nothing, they are trying to shake things up, and Woods is a good option.

Agree w/ philly. A small move but it's something. And something sure as sh!t needs to change on that kick coverage

I agree too. Making this move will light a fire on under those that have been lacking in ST's coverage, I hope.

Woods is still developing and has a chance to be a starter in this league. I believe he was a QB in college. He looked good on special teams last year. Hopefully, they'll find a way to get Woods and Bailey active at the same time.

:Agree I was shocked Woods did not make the 53 to begin with.

Is Patrick bailey even on the team this year? If so he is invisible.

I saw him in uniform working out with the team during warmups on Sunday, but didn't notice him at all during the game.

I guess he's the special teams fall guy taking the blame for all the returns. I feel bad
for Harrison. When he got injured last year you could tell he was really hurting (emotionally)
knowing that his season, and possibly career, was lost.

And for bonus points, I give you Heather Thomas...

I probably would have given you a Fall Guy pic, but I doubt that I would have unearthed the model kit for the Fall Guy pick-up truck. Schweeeeet!

And I probably would have given you Heather Locklear instead of Heather Thomas, confusing by T.J. Hooker with my Fall Guy.

I like the move. I thought Woods played well enough in the preseason to keep his spot. I feel that some type of politics played in the decision to keep Harrison over Woods. This is a good thing.

I noticed him quite often standing on the sidelines.

Alright...Who we putting on the PS? I don't want to see a familiar face.

Hopefully a developmental d-line prospect. With Smith and Kirschke out, we could probably use another body in the trenches in practice.

I agree. Possible a LB. Everette Pedescleaux was released by the Broncos and the put on
this mysterious IR/PS designation. It would have been nice if he was on the streets. Anyone know of a good place to find the 2009 draft class free agents available?

Here are some names I came up with (Not 100% sure if they are still available) on NFL.com out of the 2009 draft class:

DL
Nader Abdallah
Wil Johnson
Terrance Taylor

LB
Antonio Appleby
Robert Francois
Frantz Joseph (Playing in Canada)

Never mind....We signed Curtis Gatewood OLB.

Maybe Bright mentioned him?

Eagles trim roster, cut Bright, Gatewood, Williams
Friday, September 4th, 2009
The Eagles trimmed the roster by three today, releasing tight end Eugene Bright, linebacker Curtis Gatewood and defensive tackle Willie Williams.

Bright is the converted defensive end from Purdue who showed good athleticism this preseason but struggled to catch the football. Gatewood signed a couple weeks ago because the Eagles were short on linebackers for the last two preseason games. Williams was also a late addition during training camp.

With final cuts due by 6 p.m. tomorrow, the Eaglesí roster stands at 72 right now. They need to reduce the roster by 19 to reach the regular-season limit of 53.

Also, the Eagles said injuries to offensive tackle Winston Justice (pec) and cornerback Dimitri Patterson (ankle) suffered Thursday night during the preseason finale against the Jets at Giants Stadium are not serious. Both are listed as day to day.

Interesting that the two most recent practice squad additions both spent training camp in Philly this year (after adding Bright a few weeks ago and now Gatewood).

I liked both Johnson and Taylor as late picks. Wish we would have grabbed one.
