Wow, go Tyrone.

Maybe he is a much better FS then an SS?

Right place / right time on the pick 6. That play was the DLine getting pressure and Hoke shoving the RB into the official to reroute him in pass coverage. If Hoke doesn't redirect, that's a long gainer and potential game changer.

I've always like Ty as a backup though. Congrats to him.

he is okay, i never thought he was as bad as we thought but i certainly dont think he is at the caliber to win this award week in and week out....but remember that he knows how to play football, he holds the University of Minnesota record for tackles, he won the award for best safety in college football (whatever its called) and he was all big ten twice...

Just proves why the coaches get paid by a professional footbal team and I just type on blogs because I had no confidence that Carter playing at FS would turn out good.

Good for Tyrone!!!!

While browsing a Penn State football forum yesterday I learned that Tyrone Carter is somewhat of a hated man up in Happy Valley. Apparently a few PSU fans seem to believe that Carter single-handedly cost them a National Championship for some hit he put on a PSU RB many years ago. Here's a link to what happened:

I remember Tyrone Carter in college. I was not a Minnesota fan, just browsing some afternoon college football games and I saw a game in which Carter put on a memorable show. Had something like 17-20 tackles. And it wasn't all in the box. He did some nice pass defenses too. Truly an awesome performance and from that day I was a Tyrone Carter fan. and I will always defend him.

His pick 6 was much more than right place, right time. He read the QBs eyes and broke to the spot, caught it cleanly and took it to the house. Now Ryan Clark's two picks this season are another matter. I said he would never get more than one so he made me liar, but he was the recipient of two misfired lollipops that landed right in his breadbasket and he was fortunate enough not to drop.

He did not read the QB like Carter or break to a spot. And as is his habit, he fell straight down and got zero return yards.

Ryan Clark has never come anywhere near a pick six. He has 7 career INTS and 9 return yards. I still feel that is very low.

Tyrone Carter is like an ex girlfriend.

you don't want him around, but when he does come around, every now and then he has something for you. Like a revolving door.

Speaking of return yards, I was glad to see such an open field for Carter. He looked like he was running in water.

He made the play, so you're a hater and are trying to discredit an outstanding play. How many pick sixes does Clark have?

Two years, two starts at free safety and two DPW awards

He has

4 picks and 2 TDs in the TWO GAMES he started at free safety.

Not that I'm sayin the guy should start or anything but-

Like Ann Landers and Dear Abbey

Tyrone is "NOT TOO SHABBY"

Harrison Ford being a quarter Jewish is actually the "not too shabby" part (even though that line rhymes with Ann Landers and her sister Dear Abby). Being a quarter Jewish and getting to beat up Nazis in the Indiana Jones movies is pretty cool.

This Carter vs. Clark argument is somewhat similar to the Fox vs. Timmons argument in another thread. Carter and Fox are solid options as backups in case of injury, and they each had a big splash play interception return for a TD to help us in our last two victories. Let's not get overly excited, however. Although I can respect and admire the ability of Carter and Fox to be ready when called upon and to shine when given an opportunity, keep in mind that Clark and Timmons are starters for a reason.

I personally was not advocating Carter to start over Clark. Just pointing out some of his positive attributes. I think what hurts Carter the most is his lack of height. If he only were 5' 11' instead of 5' 8", I think he would be a better player than Clark.

Clark is a good player, but he has some deficiencies that are seldom enumerated.

I would never advocate Fox over Timmons since Timmons has excellent athletic gifts. Even though I think Fox is a fine reserve.
