I was just watching some Saints coverage and they brought up their "Who Dat?" chant. It sounds very much like the Bengals "Who Dey?" chant. In fact, they sound almost the same.

I'm wondering who is the original and who is the copy cat. Or are they both copycats of some college team's chant?

Jom, can you enlighten us?

I always thought the Saints were first.

Saints were first (native of Louisiana). Bungals cannot even get something like that right.

Well there's the Bengals.com version of the story: http://boards.bengals.com/showthread.php?t=13
(For those that care to read)

The way I've heard it (It's before my time so I can't confirm one way or the other) but, I believe N.O. the city was first in using the term 'Who Dat'. But the Bengals as a team starting using the 'Who Dey' chant before the Saints starting using the 'Who Dat' chant.

I guess this would be a similar argument to how the Steelers didn't invent towel waving but towel waving at Football games was started by the Steelers (I believe).

I believe the term 'Who Dat?' was officially coined by Farmer Fran. :D

i dotn know, but the saints are getting might cocky...all i know is that reggie bush (you know me as thinking of him as the most overrated player in the NFL) goes on radio and says they should go 16-0....we will see what is in store for them, but right now i would say they are good, but they did not even make the playoffs in either of the last 2 years...they have alot of work to do to win a super bowl and i dont know if they know that...

I actually researched this the other day.

Here's what I found via Wikipedia.

The Benglas started using Who Dey in 1981.
The Saints started in 1983.

But the first football team to use it was Southern Universitiy.

All versions appear to be ripped off from old timey music.

If we play either, we should chant "Who cares?"

Why shouldn't they? They're averaging 39 points a game. Their remaining schedule is very weak outside of two games ... NE and @ATL. Their D has scored 6 TDs for them, so they are playing well on both sides of the ball.

Just heard a funny fact today. The Saints D has scored 6 TD's while the Browns O has only scored 5 TD's...

Thanks, I think.

The thing is, will they be prepared when they get to the playoffs and suddenly have to play the good teams? At least when the Patriots did their thing a few years ago, they had playoff experience and knew how to play good teams.

SI.com's Hot Clicks breaks the news this morning that The Who will be performing during halftime of Super Bowl XLIV. There was some earlier talk of Bon Jovi playing the gig, but I guess that didn't work out.

Who Dey, Who Dat and The Who has a nice ring to it don't you think?

They wanted Bon Jovi, and their fallback option was The Who? Are they kidding? Who are these people? Bon Jovi aren't worthy of being roadies for The Who.
