View Full Version : OT - Curse of the terrible towel

I remember reading on here about Detroit's mascot wiping his butt and then eating the terrible towel right before the Steelers sacked the Qb three times in a row. Does this also qualify for the same curse that was bestowed upon Tennessee? And does it supercede/extend the 50 year Bobby Layne curse that just expired last month? Just wondering if I am clear to pick with confidence against the Lions for the rest of this season, or if it wasn't as bad since the mascot did the disrespecting.
Any experts on curses? :D

Mascots disrespecting the towel is a short term offense (one game) because mascots are supposed to be mischevious in general.
The Cardinals mascot defaced the towel prior to the Super Bowl, and they lost that game in devastating fashion (Harrison's 100 INT TD, Santonio's tip-toe catch with under a minute to go, etc.).
The Lions' mascot defaced the towel near the end of their game with us, and then we sacked Culpepper 3 plays in a row, destroying a potential game winning drive.
Players defacing the towel have had longer lasting effects.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh defacing the towel lead to his quarterback blowing his knee out and them losing to us in their only playoff game in forever, pushing a promising young team back down below the mediocrity line for several more seasons.
LenDale White, Keith Bullock, and Jevon Kearse defacing the towel ruined a 13-3 season for the Titan by forcing a couple of costly fumbles in their only playoff game and then lead to a 6 game losing streak, eliminating them from contention early in the following season, with their first win coming because the offenders signed the towel, which will be used to raise money for the Allegheny Valley School via auction.

Don't forget TJ going to Seattle, a team that sucks right now while his former team is playing well.

if that doesn't tell the truth ? they sign the towel to lift the curse. see, they know they screwed up and it is in their heads.
