After six years and two kids (with one on the way) later, my Dad and I made our first trip to see the Steelers since the 2003 season. Instead of our regular Cincinnati trip, we headed north to my old home town of Detroit to visit Ford Field for the first time. As I heard from those of you that have visited it already, it is a really nice stadium. Although a new stadium doesn't always mean a better team (see the current baseball "team" that plays in the 'Burgh).

Anyway, here are some pictures I took during our trip. We were fortunate enough to get near the field when the players were coming out for warmups. I did the best I could from our seats as I don't have the greatest camera in the world, but took a few decent pictures.

Penguins fans should recognize this building.

Great pictures, man! Looks like you had an awesome time.

My recollection of the "Use Me" thing was from one of the back-up linebackers a year ago (it may have been Arnold Harrison? who said it to the coaches in a meeting at one point), and it just stuck as somewhat of a rallying cry for the rest of the team (as sort of "whatever I can do to help the team win, I will do" statement). I'm not sure if I have all of the details correct, but I think it was something like that.

Sorry I didn't make my way over to your neck of the woods, but we got to Detroit about 2 hours before gametime, and got stuck in a little bit of traffic about a mile from exit 50 on I75. We never made it into the stadium until about 30 minutes before kickoff. Major bummer for me, but it was then that we found out that the wife and I were on different time schedules, as could be evidenced by my attitude in the car the last mile or so and her lazafair (sp?) attitude about it. :)

Either way, a couple of things I noticed abotuford Field . . .

Really nice looking facility but indoor stadiums that I have been to (RCA dome and Ford Field) don't really scream football to me. It is easily more comfortable to watch a game in 70 degree controled weather, but It had the feel of an exhibition game to me.

Really embarrasing all the empty seats, especially the grey ones on the sideline between the lower bowl and the upper deck.

Still don't know why you go to a Lions/Steelers game and wear a Dolphins or Bengals jersey. I saw both.

A little less bad, but I was amazed at how many yuppies went to the game with no gear on at all. No hat, no jersey, no t-shirt, just regular old clothes. At least wear something.

Really, not a bad seat in the house to see the field. Very nice sightlines for everyone. Was really impressed in that reguard.

When the lions scored the field goal to start the game, and that guy sang live from the field, I thought it was really gay. Then I thought about how it would be if the Lions were winnign consistently, and it could become a tradition.

Did the mascot not hear of the curse of the Terrible towell. The Lions were driving for the potential tying score, and that mascot in the end zone below me starting wiping his butt and eating the towell, yes he did it in that order. Next three plays . . . sack, sack, sack incomplete hail mary. Good to see Myron at work.

Othwise, the game was not necessarily satisfying, but a win, which I was happy with. The area outside Ford Field was awesome, right next door to Comerica, which looks like it gives PNC a run for it's money. Parking was really easily found and we got out of dodge pretty easily and back on the highway.

And last, but not least, i still maintain that it was close to a 3-1 advantage for the Steelers in the crowd. That was prety awesome, even to the point where I felt a little bad for them.

My thoughts exactly. As soon as I saw that, I knew the Steelers had it in the bag. Ask the Titans.

Great to see and hear that yinz guys had a great time in the Motor City. I was looking to go up for that one but wasn't able to swing it money-wise.

Been to Detroit several times and have always had a great time while there. The Stadium has a great look for football.

Been to Comerica a few times and that is a really nice ball park...and, for me at least, it had to be that nice to allow Tiger Stadium to become a fond memory instead of wanting the Tigers to move back there. Hope PNC stacks up as well when I get down there next season.

This would've been a great roadie because it was a predominantly Steeler crowd as I expected it would be and the vibe in Detroit is always lotsa fun.

My wife and I were trying to guess how many Steeler fans were going to be in the crowd on the way up there. We setled in on 50/50. Then, I saw just about every car passing me (man, you all have lead feet) on I-75 was a Steelers caravan. I mean every single car. I knew it wasn't going to be 50/50 anymore. :tt1

I was thinking 51/49 steelers fans. Did yinz see the guy waving the terrible towel in front of the cameraman on the first kickoff of the game. How cool?
