I really enjoyed that game from the 1995 season, it was a back and forth overtime thriller, the nfl network is showing that game tomorrow night (friday) at 8

Thanks for the heads-up. For whatever reason, that game doesn't pop up in the memory banks, but looking at the box score, it looked like an awesome game. DVR is set.

Wow thanks for the heads up!!!

If I remember that game correctly, that was the first time that season that the Steelers offense went out and WON the game. They had a great D that year w/Lloyd and Co. but O'Donnell basically led them down the field at the end for the win.

Lloyd came over and congratulated O'Donnell and it was symbolic because up until that point, the defense carried the team.

The Steelers had some great games against NFC North teams in 1995; however, the game against Green Bay was an especially difficult loss to stomach. I was a huge Thigpin fan, but that drop in the end zone was an absolute crusher!

Yeah, I remember that vividly, that was sooo uncharacteristic of Yancey too. I was big fan of his, I can't believe he bolted the way he did, only to end up like most FA that leave the Burgh and winding up as a has-been.

i remember that game against green bay, christmas eve 1995, thigpen had it, turns out that it was not a meaningful game, but we could of been 12-4 instead of 11-5.......i miss the afc playing on nbc...

i remember that game and it had steeler mojo. i beleive the annoucers at the time said it had been a while if ever the steelers won in chicago and when we did, i knew the stars were lined up for the super bowl.

i also thought everytime since we played the bears and won that season, we went to the super bowl. my memory might be off a tad or just wrong all together after these years but, i think the stars are lined up once again.

That game really meant nothing. We were had #2 seed locked up already (KC was #1 I think). Anyway, the best part about that drop is the next preseason we played in Green Bay and the Pack fans cheered Yancey and had signs for him thanking him IIRC.

i like your thought process, but in 1998 we played the bears in the second game of the year, we won 17-12, but we went on to have our first losing season under Cowher....lets hope history does not repeat itself

Yup...game meant nothing and the Packers were playing to win the division for the first time since 1972.

Man, the block numbers look A_W_E_S_O_M_E!!!!!

It's fun to look at old rosters and reminisce a bit. I'm a bit surprised that there were a couple of names that I have no recollection of whatsoever (which is quite odd for me when it comes to Steeler related things)...WR Johnnie Barnes and TE Tracy Greene. Then again, I was in college in 1995 and that is the year that I met my wife, so my mind may have been otherwise occupied for much of that year (I still vividly remember hour-long phone calls with my father every Sunday night during football season in which we recapped every detail of that day's Steeler game, though. Good times.)

And, yes, we need to return to the BLOCK NUMBERS!!!

I'm having a blast watching this game. Living in WI of course I'm familiar with the names of all these Bears players too. I watched this game at my brother's place...it was so much fun!

As for the block numbers, perhaps someone with a master's level edumacation (good writin' skillz) should start up an online petition (http://www.petitionspot.com/) that could be signed by Steelers fans as it's emailed and posted all over the net...then sent to the organization in an effort to bring them back! :) :tt2

those block number uniforms are the only 'retro' ones we should ever wear. one of the funnier moments tonight was when i turned on the game the bears were in the middle of a great kickoff return. the first thought that came through my mind was......crap! Bobby April!!!!

SN1's observations:

-block numbers do indeed rule
-the NFL network should show classic games more often (as opposed to hours and hours of rich eisen)
-now I remember why I hate Paul mcguire more than Satan...that guy is terrible!

Well if you need any input on the verbiage for the petition to bring back the block numbers just let me know...I'm happy to help. :P

SN1 - I always liked McGuire. He was never phony. If he screwed something up he would admit it.

Oh yes, Bobby April. The same special teams coach currently coaching in Buffalo who didn't bother to remind Leodis McKelvin to TAKE A D@MN KNEE IN THE @#$%ING END ZONE in the game against New England so the Bills could, you know, actually WIN THE @#$%ING GAME!!! :HeadBanger

I watched and listened to all the luv thrown O'Donnels way. And then thought about how he would tear Steeler fans hearts out in XXX with those #@$% interceptions. :HeadBanger .

Interesting how the announcers mentioned a few times how it was good of the offense to help the Steeler D out with all the points. The 95 team had 6 games were they scored 29+ points, seven if you include the playoff win over Buffalo.
