I think I may have posed this question last year. I'm not a big hockey fan, but I watched last night and I'll watch tonight and of course, root for the Pens. But when and why did they change from the Black and Goldenrod to Black and regular Gold uniforms???

I don't know but, I hope they didn't feel it would have given them an edge for this cup series ?

At the end of the last decade...err...century...umm...millenium...whateve r...they switched from this:

to this:

(well, Crosby wasn't there in 2000, but you get the idea).

Earlier this season, I was at the game in which the Pens wore their old powder blues at home for the first time since the 1970's. I bought myself a #25 Max Talbot edition to mark the occasion.

I guess I was more interested in the "why" more then the "when" they changed and if anyone knew the reason.

BTW, the powder blue throwback is pretty cool!!

People say black and gold so much, it's about time someone finally made the switch to the right colors.

That's funny, though not a hockey fan I was wondering the very same thing yesterday when I saw a photo of the "Gold" on their uniforms - "looks like Saints!".

Doesn't bother me as much as those Steeler throwback uniforms ... looks too much like the Browns home uniforms.

I never hear any one refer to any of the Pittsburgh teams as the Black and the Goldenrod.

Maybe you could start doing that to shame the Pens.

Although they did a pretty good job of shaming themselves the last 2 days in Detroit.....

A black jersey with gold letters and a gold helmet looks like a brown jersey with white letters and orange helmets? :?:

The only similarity I see is the block numbering, which we never should have eliminated. That is the only improvement I would make to our uniforms...the return to block numbers.

Is a better looking jersey than

in my opinion.

Yeah, it just sounds a lot better than the Black and Yellow

I was just curious who made the decision to make the switch. Could you ever imagine us changing over to Black and (real) Gold like the Pens did???

The bridge jumpers would be out in force if that ever happened. It would be a lot worse than when they changed the block numbers.

No need to jump, just have everybody stand on the Smithfield Street Bridge at the same time.

We've got a low tech TV, but I didn't realize how low tech till now. Not that I didn't believe you Ruth, but I had to google it to be sure it was black. Somehow the gold numbering made those jerseys look brown on my TV. So glad to know at least that thing is as it should be!

It's all about the money. Change the colors and the fans will buy the new stuff.

Yup...they are black. Time to upgrade to HD. :brownssuck :D

I thought they were pretty sharp too. I'm surprised my wife didn't buy me one for Christmas/Birthday/Father's Day/Anniversary/whatever, since she thinks I'm hard to buy for (and knows that I like 'em). I guess she thinks I have enough jerseys (just like I think she has enough shoes). Nearly half of the walk-in closet is filled with football and hockey jerseys, so maybe she has a point.

I even got used to the gold helmets as well. I just can't get used to the white pants, though. They should make it a rule that they have to wear these old unis every time Baltimore comes to Heinz, because Harrison seems to turn into even more of a beast (if that is even possible), when wearing them against the Ravens.

It's definitely better than this one...fo' sho':

I'm almost ashamed to say I owned one of those old Barry Foster god-awful throwbacks. My parents bought it for me for Christmas that year, and I think I only wore it on Christmas Day. On gameday, I always reverted back to my authentic Lloyd as always. I think my sister wore that old throwback a few times back then, since she did not have her own Steeler jersey at that time.

This is just too weird. It's not the TV, it's my eyes - even the throwback Jersey in the above photo looks brown to me  . Something about the gold #s and my eyes I guess.

At least this weird visual thing is just a curiousity, nothing important, right? I hope it doesn't imperil my work on the Bomb Squad. Hardly any of the wires are brow

I am probably the only Steeler fan on theplanet that actually likes both of the throwbacks displayed above. I wouldn't even mind the Steelers going with the white pants, black jersey and gold helmet as a staple.
