Don't know much about him, but seems like another good possible Steeler signing!

Well, he has a history with Tomlin in Minnesota and could be a veteran backup option if you could sign him on the cheap. Didn't we take a look at him a couple of years ago as well?

This could solve our ILB depth issue.

With Larry's Foote-Stomp now in Detroit, bringing in Napoleon could improve our team's celebratory dance moves for sure!

This signing could make a lot of sense, especially given the familiarity with Tomlin. I would feel very comfortable with Harris filling in for Farrior or Timmons, and I think that he could contribute as a rotational guy as well. If Timmons struggles against the run, he could also fill the Foote role of playing first and second down.

For what its worth, is what Scouts Inc. has to say about him:

After missing the first six game six the season with an injury, Harris returned as the Vikings' middle linebacker to have a very solid year. Harris is an excellent combination of size, strength and athleticism. He is a solid wrap tackler and a physical take-on defender against the run. Harris reads and reacts well as plays unfold, which enables him to leverage the ball effectively. Harris takes good angles inside out to the ball and shows excellent range for a middle linebacker. He is solid in man coverage maybe best in zone schemes. He has improved his route recognition and understands how to leverage receivers in his zone. He uses his hand well to work thru trash and stay alive to the pile. Harris is a good football player who returned to the Vikings defense after leaving for a season in Kansas City. He has been a solid special teams contributor in past seasons, but Harris was not used in this phase of the game in 2008. Harris will likely be re-signed in 2009; he is an integral part of this impressive Minnesota defense.

They also rate him as an average starter.

"Average starter" means he is equal to Foote. Would be a good signing and much like McDoanld at WR would provide veteran depth ala Byron Leftwich at QB last year.

Training camp this year is going to be a dogfight for positions. Tomlin has broken the code for not falling into a lull or complacency after a Super Bowl win--heads up boys you are playing for your careers.

And we wouldn't be paying this average starter nearly $3 million in base salary next season.

I guess Tomlin was reading all our threads about lack of depth at ILB and failing to draft an ILB, yadda yadda yadda

Tomlin was listening to Deville

Mind you it's only a visit at this point.

I would love for the Steelers to sign Harris...one of the few bad@$$es to come out of Northwestern...

Also, he has experience as a true 4-3 MLB... :stirpot

One final note...IIRC, he and Antwaan Randle El went to high school together and were teammates in both football and basketball...not that that means anything, but I do find it interesting...

This is the biggest difference between Cowher and Tomlin IMO.

I was going to go with Cowher spitting much more than Tomlin or Tomlin having much more melanin in his skin than Cowher as some of the biggest differences between them, but that works too.

Uncle Rico and his quarter-mile throwing arm might be worth taking a look at as well.

Yep- sounds about right- a solid Steeler FA signing.

In fact, Chadman believes that Harris is physically a superior player to Foote. Foote though, played smart & like a Steeler. Yet to be seen if Harris can do the same.

If he catches on, he could also be used in a 4-3....just to :stirpot a little... :Boobs

"How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?" is one of the funniest lines I have heard in a movie in years.

We haven't actually signed him have we?

I do think he would be another piece to the transition to the 4-3 along with Timmons and Hood :stirpot

True. I just get a little tired of hearing how every player that Tomlin has ever seen, (that might become a steeler), turns into a fabulous, FA steal. At this point it looks like he hits more than he misses. Lets just keep it in perspective.

every coach and fo screws up sometimes. they cant all be great decisions in regards to evaluating talent with the draft and signing free agents. so far tomlin has done a great job. the steelers have a great front office. there have been some bad moves but they are definetly an elite organization in that regard
