It is his only chance to stay alive. Down to Toomey by, what, 20 points right now? He couldn't go Indy as the dems would have run someone as well and Specter would have been an afterthought in a 2 man race.

Word is dems promised not to run anyone and back SPecter in '10.

This is his only option to hold onto his job.
